Armarouge's low speed make it a great Trick Room setter, with its natural physical bulk letting it survive a super effective hit to activate Weakness Policy.

Armor Cannon is its main STAB move, boasting high base power with the only drawback being the one stage drop in Defense and Sp.Defense. Aura Sphere is its main coverage move and gets a good boost when terastallizing into a Fighting-type.

Dark Pulse is its last coverage move and allows it to take on opposing Psychic and Ghost-types.

Other Viable Moves

Psyshock Psyshock is a good alternative Dark Palse that gives Armarouge a secondary STAB and allows it to threaten Chansey and Blissey.
Energy Ball A good alternative coverage move to Dark Pulse that allows Armarouge to beat bulky Water-types.

Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse are its two main coverage moves, giving it great neutral coverage against its common switch-ins.

Psyshock is its last move and is a great secondary STAB that allows it to threaten special walls like as the move hits their weaker Defense stat.

Other Viable Moves

Flame Charge Although a physical attack, Flame Charge is a great move to as it gives Armarouge a way to boost its Speed when Weak Armor hasn't activated yet.
Energy Ball A great alternative to Dark Pulse that gives it coverage against Water-types.

Trick Room

Armarouge's Speed Stat is at a comfortable number, wherein it can outspeed most foes under Tailwind, or underspeed them for Trick Room. Using Trick Room is often a good option when the opponent has set up a Tailwind of their own. When Armarouge is attacking first, it can often take out multiple opponents, especially with its powerful Expanding Force.

Wide Guard can help Armarouge and its partner protect themselves from spread attacks like Snarl or Earthquake.

Grass is the defensive Tera Type of choice, because it can protect Armarouge from Ground and Water-type Moves, but players may opt for Psychic Tera to boost the power of Expanding Force.

Other Viable Moves

Protect Protect is good for scouting, or stalling out turns of Tailwind, or disadvatageous turns of Trick Room.

Protect can help Armarouge on turns where it is in danger of getting double targeted.

Other Viable Moves

Wide Guard Wide Guard can take unprepared opponents by surprise, protecting you from powerful spread moves like Gholdengo's Make it Rain and Garchomp's Earthquake

How to Use Armarouge Effectively

A Bulky Special Attacker

Armarouge's great natural bulk and dual STAB makes it a great choice for main special attacker. It also has a great special movepool, with key coverage moves like Aura Sphere and Energy Ball giving it tools to take on its usual switch-ins.

How to Build a Team with Armarouge

Armarouge is easy to fit into any team, though it shines in more defensive-oriented compositions that can cover its middling speed and weakness to entry hazards.

Sample Singles Team

Lead Support Special Attacker Offensive Pivot
Great Tusk ImageGreat Tusk Armarouge ImageArmarouge Gyarados ImageGyarados

Armarouge has trouble switching into entry hazards due to its weakness to both Stealth Rock and Spikes. This makes Great Tusk a great partner thanks to its massive physical bulk and ability to Rapid Spin entry hazards away.

Gyarados functions as this team's offensive pivot and is a great switch-in to Water-types such as Azumarill and Palafin.

Sample Doubles Team

Support Trick Room Setter / Special Attacker
Indeedee (Female) ImageIndeedee (Female) Armarouge ImageArmarouge
Special Attacker Physical Attacker
Sylveon ImageSylveon Meowscarada ImageMeowscarada

Indeedee-F is most useful when it is redirecting damage away from Armarouge. Even though they share a Dark-type weakness, a teammate like Sylveon in the back can help against Dark-type Pokemon.

Meowscarada is great matchup against Water and Ground-type Pokemon who may want to take on Armarouge.

Counters for Armarouge

Take Advantage of its Common Weaknesses

Although Armarouge has a great dual STAB, it's also weak to common attacking types such as Rock, Dark, Ghost, and Ground.
