Moveset | ・
Growth
・ Tera Blast ・ Solar Beam ・ Hyper Voice |
Arboliva's high Special Attack and respectable natural bulk, particularly its Special Defense, make it an effective Growth setup sweeper for dedicated sun teams. During the effects of Sunny Day, Growth boosts Arboliva's Attack and Special Attack by two stages.
Tera Blast becomes a Base 80 Fire-type move when Arboliva terasstalizes into a Fire-type, and gives it a great STAB move that gets boosted under harsh sunlight. Similarly, Solar Beam is a strong spammable under sun as the weather removes its two-turn charge.
Hyper Voice is its last STAB move and while it doesn't hit anything for super effective damage, it's a strong neutral Special move that allows Arboliva to hit bulky Dragon-types such as Altaria.
Dazzling Gleam | A good alternative to Hyper Beam that allows Arboliva to hit Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-types for super effective damage. |
---|---|
Earth Power | Can replace Hyper Voice and lets Arboliva threaten Fire-types. |
Synthesis | A great move that can replace Hyper Voice and allows Arboliva to heal off damage. This move has increased healing under harsh sunlight. |
The following calculations take into account Arboliva's offensive EV spread and the +2 Special Attack boost from Growth.

|
---|---|
Item: Covert Cloak | 312-368 (160.8 - 189.6%) Guaranteed OHKO |
Item: Black Sludge | Solar Beam 160-190 (101.9 - 121%) Guaranteed OHKO |
Item: Leftovers | Hyper Voice 127-151 (80.8 - 96.1%) Guaranteed 2-Hit KO |

Ability | Harvest |

Held Item | Petaya Berry |
Moveset | ・
Substitute
・ Leech Seed ・ Giga Drain ・ Tera Blast |
Arboliva's great natural bulk makes it an effective Harvest abuser. This Ability normally has a 50% chance to restore the Pokemon's Berry after using it, but becomes 100% under harsh sunlight. This build is equipped with the Petaya Berry, which increases Arboliva's Special Attack by one stage and is consumed in a pinch.
Substitute is necessary for this build to get Arboliva to low HP so that its Petaya Berry activates. When used in conjunction with Leech Seed and Giga Drain, you can get several Petaya Berry boosts by getting back up to full health and using Substitute again to reactivate the berry.
Leech Seed along with Giga Drain restores its health, potentially to full health, and allows you to use Substitute again to lower its HP and activate Petaya Berry repeatedly.
Tera Blast is its last move and, when Arboliva terastallizes into a Fire-type, serves as a strong secondary STAB move that can hit surprisingly hard with enough Petaya Berry boosts.
Solar Beam | A stronger Grass-type STAB but forces Arboliva to rely on just Leech Seed to recover lost health. |

The following calculations take into account Arboliva's offensive EV spread.
Damage Dealt by Arboliva |
|
---|---|
Item: Black Sludge | Giga Drain 108-128 (52.4 - 62.1%) 98.4% Chance to 2-Hit KO |
Item: Covert Cloak | 158-188 (71.4 - 85%) Guaranteed 2-Hit KO |

Moveset | ・
Helping Hand
・ Leech Seed ・ Strength Sap ・ Dazzling Gleam |
Arboliva makes a great support Pokemon in Doubles thanks to Seed Sower, which sets up Grassy Terrain on the field and weakens the damage of Earthquake.
Access to Helping Hand also allows it to boost the power of its ally's next move by 50%, while Leech Seed allows it to pressure opposing defensive Pokemon such as Wash Rotom and keep it from staying on the field.
Strength Sap is its main recovery move, with the healing potency dependent on the target's Attack stat and boosts. This move also lower's the target's Attack stat by one stage and allows Arboliva to check physical attackers.
Arboliva's last move is Dazzling Gleam, which hits both opposing Pokemon in Doubles. It also gets STAB when Arboliva terastallizes into a Fairy-type. Tera Fairy also gives Arboliva key resistances, particularly Fighting-type moves that it's normally weak to.
Energy Ball | A good alternative to Leech Seed or Strength Sap that gives Arboliva a spammable Grass-type STAB move. |
---|---|
Hyper Voice | An alternative to Dazzling Gleam that also hits both opposing Pokemon twice, but is generally a weaker move even with STAB. |
The following calculations take into account Arboliva's Defensive EV spread.
Damage Received by Arboliva |
|
---|---|
Item:
Focus Sash
|
Mach Punch 98-116 (56.9 - 67.4%) Guaranteed 2-Hit KO |
Item:
Leftovers
|
Fire Fang 126-150 (73.2 - 87.2%) Guaranteed 2-Hit KO |
Item: Life Orb | First Impression 159-190 (92.4 - 110.4%) 68.8% Chance to 1-Hit KO |
Arboliva is currently the only Pokemon in the game that can automatically set up Grassy Terrain with its Ability, though it requires getting hit by a move. This gives it a unique niche in dedicated sun teams that appreciate the residual healing.
With Seed Sower's Grassy Terrain also reducing the damage of Earthquake in Doubles, Arboliva is an attractive choice for support Pokemon even outside of dedicated sun teams.
Access to key moves such as Helping Hand, Leech Seed, and Strength Sap also allow it to check both defensive and offensive Pokemon without tweaking its EV spread.
In Singles, Arboliva is best used in dedicated sun teams so that it gets +2 Special Attack boost from Growth.
In Doubles, Arboliva can fit into almost any team composition and is particularly useful in offensive teams as it can provide Helping Hand support.
Lead Support | Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |
---|---|---|
Torkoal | Arboliva | Ceruledge |
Torkoal's main role is to set up weather with its Drought Ability and support its teammates by setting up Stealth Rock on the field. With harsh sunlight up, Arboliva is free to switch in and boost its offenses with Growth and sweep with its STAB moves.
Ceruledge fills the role of a physical attacker for the team. Not only does it check opposing Fire-types, its Ghost typing also allows it to block Rapid Spin users such as Iron Treads and prevent them from removing Stealth Rock.
Lead Attacker | Lead Support |
---|---|
Gholdengo | Arboliva |
Offensive Pivot | Physical Attacker |
Arcanine | Mimikyu |
With Arboliva setting up Grassy Terrain with Seed Sower, Earthquake's base power is lowered which gives Gholdengo an easier time to stay on the field and setup with Nasty Plot to boost the power of Make it Rain. Arboliva can also further boost the power of Gholdengo's Make it Rain with Helping Hand.
Arcanine serves as this team's offensive pivot, with its Fire-typing and Intimidate synergizing well with both Arboliva and Arcanine.
Mimikyu fills the role of physical attacker and appreciates the residual healing from Grassy Terrain. It's also a great swap for Gholdengo and has an easier time setting up thanks to Disguise.
In Singles, Arboliva struggles against Fire-types even if it terastallizes into a Fire-type itself. These Pokemon can wear down Arboliva and force it to switch, or cripple it with their own support moves.
