Fillet Away
・ Aqua Cutter ・ Psycho Cut ・ Night Slash |
Veluza's Sharpness Ability boosts the power of its cutting moves by 50%, and allows it to hit hard with its dual STAB Aqua Cutter and Psycho Cut, both becomes 105 base power moves.
Fillet Away raises Veluza's Attack, Special Attack, and Speed by two stages at the cost of cutting its HP in half, which is remedied by healing from Sitrus Berry. This boost allows it to threaten and overpower physical walls such as Toxapex with its Psychic STAB.
Night Slash is its last move and gives it great neutral coverage together with its main STAB moves, allowing it to threaten Ghost-types such as Gholdengo.
Recover | Recover can replace Night Slash so that Veluza can actively recover last health, and also allows it to run Mystic Water instead of Sitrus Berry. |

The following calculations take into account Veluza's offensive EV spread and the 50% base power boost from Sharpness, as well as the +2 Attack boost from Fillet Away.

Moveset | ・
Fillet Away
・ Aqua Cutter ・ Psycho Cut ・ Night Slash |
This build is the same as the singles moveset but is meant to work with a dedicated team supporting it, with the goal to setup Fillet Away twice.
Aqua Cutter and Psycho Cut are its main STAB moves, while Night Slash rounds off its coverage. All three moves receive the boost from Sharpness, increasing their base power to 105.
Sitrus Berry is the best held item for this build to ensure Veluza can use Fillet Away again, while Water Tera type removes its Dark-type weakness while further boosting the power of Aqua Cutter.
Recover | Recover can replace Night Slash so that Veluza can actively recover last health, and also allows it to run Mystic Water instead of Sitrus Berry. |

The following calculations take into account Veluza's offensive EV spread and the 50% base power boost from Sharpness, as well as the +4 Attack boost from Fillet Away.

Item: Leftovers | Aqua Cutter 216-254 (100.4 - 118.1%) Guaranteed 1-Hit KO |
Item: Leftovers | Psycho Cut 180-212 (114.6 - 135%) Guaranteed 1-Hit KO |
Item: Covert Cloak | Night Slash 1232-274 (119.5 - 141.2%)) Guaranteed 1-Hit KO |
Veluza's Fillet Away and Sharpness boost allows it to overwhelm even the most bulky defensive Pokemon, but it's also a very difficult Pokemon to setup due to its fraility and very common weakness.
In Singles, it's best paired with a Shed Tail user such as Cyclizar who can provide a Substitute to protect Cyclizar from status and attacks, as well as give it a chance to setup with Fillet Away twice.
In Doubles, Veluza requires redirection support from the likes of Toedscruel and Amoonguss to safely setup and prevent it from being KO'd by the opposing team.
Veluza appreciates Shed Tail support from Cyclizar to protect it from status and allow it to safely setup with Fillet Away. In Doubles, it's best used in more balanced team compositions with redirection support.
Lead Support | Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Cyclizar | Veluza | Iron Moth |
Cylizar's main role is to setup with Shed Tail, passing its Substitute to Veluza so that it can safely setup with Fillet Away. With a boost or two, Veluza can then sweep with its STAB and coverage moves.
Iron Moth serves as this team's special attacker and offensive pivot to check Grass-types that Veluza struggles with.
Lead Attacker | Redirection Support |
---|---|
Veluza | Volcarona |
Special Attacker | Bulky Pivot |
Hydreigon | Garganacl |
Veluza's main role is to set up with Fillet Away, preferably twice after Sitrus Berry activates, while Volcarona provides Rage Powder support. Volcarona's Flame Body Ability ensures that physical attackers redirected by Rage Powder have a 30% chance to get burned.
Hydreigon is this team's special attacker and like Veluza, appreciates redirection support from Volcarona. Garganacl serves as this team's defensive pivot, using Salt Cure to pressure opposing defensive Pokemon and force them to switch.
Veluza's ability to overcome defensive Pokemon is offset by its very low bulk, which makes it susceptible to getting revenge killed by faster Pokemon or priority users.

Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Wo-Chien | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Tablets of Ruin cuts Veluza's Attack by 25% and can stall with Leech Seed. ・Immune to Psychic and resists Veluza's Water STAB and Dark coverage. ▶️Wo-Chien Best Movesets |

・Defensive variants with Unaware ignores Veluza's Fillet Away boost. ・Can terastallize into a pure Water-type to remove its Water weakness, and wear down Veluza with Earthquake or Toxic. ▶️Clodsire Best Movesets |
