It has good base defensive stats. Multiple ways to heal itself. Can now Terastallize to help with more difficult matchups. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Overgrow | Leftovers |
The Ability chosen for this build is Overgrow. This will boost the damage of Giga Drain while it is at low health.
The item chosen for this build is Leftovers. This helps Meganium recover a lot of health at the end of every turn, especially when paired with Leech Seed.
Alternatively, it could use Leaf Guard if it is run on a Sun team. It could also use a Sitrus Berry if it needs a more immediate form of healing.
Giga Drain | Substitute |
Leech Seed | Protect / Detect |
Giga Drain is its best Grass-type STAB move since it will heal Meganium for half of the damage that it deals, making it even harder to remove from battle.
Substitute gives an extra layer of safety and prevents it from getting afflicted with a status.
Leech Seed works well in this build because it synergizes with Leftovers healing Meganium at the end of every turn.
Protect and Detect let Meganium stall out turns to let it heal and to let the opponent take more chip damage from being poisoned and Leech Seed.
Fire Tera Type Matchup | ||
---|---|---|
Weak to: | ||
(2x) | ||
Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Resists: | (0.5x) | |
Fire is the best Tera Type for this build because it removes Meganium's weaknesses and it will still hit Ground, Rock, and Water types for super-effective damage.
Best Fire (Tera) Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
A full 252 EVs are placed in Meganium's HP and Defense to make it as physically bulky as possible. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Sp. Atk to slightly boost its damage output.
A Bold nature is preferred to maximize its physical bulk.
Alternatively, it could use a Calm nature with maxed-out Sp. Def if the meta has more special attackers.
Synthesis | Gives a more immediate form of recovery compared to Leech Seed's passive healing. |
---|---|
Dragon Tail | Forces the opponent to switch out, which works well if Meganium is paired with an ally that has entry hazards like Stealth Rock or Spikes. If you're using this move, consider a -Sp. Atk or -Spe nature instead of a -Atk one. |

Game8's Competitive Damage Calculator
Meganium is not a great attacker, but it makes up for it by having decent HP and high Defense and Special Defense stats.
Utilize moves like Leech Seed combined with Protect and Substitute to stall out turns and let the opponent take enough chip damage to knock it out.
Meganium is best used as a defensive Pokemon, so it will need its allies to do more immediate damage to get a win.
Wish Support | Physical Wall | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Alomomola | Meganium | Heatran |
These three Pokemon create a strong Grass-Fire-Water defensive core. They can all easily switch out and tank hits meant for one of its allies.
Alomomola helps its allies by healing them with Wish whenever it switches out with Flip Turn. Meganium can then come in to hit the opponent with chip damage every turn so that Heatran has an easier time knocking out the opponent's Pokemon.
