Summary

The best ability for Chien-Pao in Tera Raid Battles is Sword of Ruin. This ability lowers the Defense of the Raid boss b ut will also lower your party members' , so be careful when using this build in Co-Op.

Best Tera Type

We also recommend getting a Chien-Pao with a Dark Tera Type to further boost the damage of Payback and Crunch. As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature would be best.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize

EV Spread Explanation

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense to help with survivability while still dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Def. The Shell Bell held item allows Chien-Pao to recover some HP after every turn it attacks.

Tera Raid Strategy

Chien-Pao Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Optional Use Snowscape to raise Chien-Pao's Defense.
Turns 1~3 Use Swords Dance to raise Chien-Pao's Attack to +6.
Turns 4~6 Use Crunch or Pay Back (when the raid boss is faster) to deal damage and build Tera Charge.
Turns 7+ Terastallize once you build up enough Tera Orb Charge, and continue using Crunch or Pay Back.

You can start the Tera Raid battle by using Snowscape to set up snow and raise your Defense to tank more hits. Set up with Swords Dance a few times to boost Chien-Pao's Attack.

Use Crunch to deal super effective damage. Payback is preferred when Chien-Pao is slower than the raid boss. Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, terastallize into a Dark-type and use boosted attacks to finish the raid.

Before attempting to catch it, make sure that you turn off your Autosave first. This is so you can restart the battle all over again if it ends up with a Dark Tera Type.

Make sure to bring a Pokemon that has False Swipe and can inflict a status effect to make it easier to catch.
