Scream Tail's Protosynthesis activates under Harsh sunlight, giving it a 30% boost to Defense. With this EV Spread, Scream Tail can wall off Physical pokemon, and Calm Mind allows you to wall off Special attackers.

Scream Tail only has three weaknesses, and is able to check Poison types with its STAB Psychic-type moves. Calm Mind Allows Scream Tail to also be specially defensive if given enough time to set up.

Dazzling Gleam is Scream Tail's main damaging move, dealing decent damage by itself, or massive damage after getting boosts from Calm Mind. Stored Power benefits greatly from Calm Mind, allowing Scream Tail to dish out heavy damage while still being extremely tanky.

Thanks to Scream Tail's high max HP, Wish allows it to stay in battle longer, since it will heal Scream Tail by half of its max HP in the next turn. Leftovers further increases Scream Tail's survivability, healing it for a small amount every turn.

Other Viable Moves

Sunny Day Allows Scream Tail to activate Booster Energy alone.
Flamethrower Viable coverage move that benefits from Harsh Sunlight as well.

Summary

Pokeball IconBecomes very fast with Booster Energy.

Ability and Held Item

As with all Past Paradox Pokemon, Scream Tail has Protosynthesis. Booster Energy is consumed as soon as Scream Tail enters the field, which boosts its Speed stat.

Moves Breakdown

Scream Tail is given enough Attack EVs to OHKO Roaring Moon with Play Rough. As Scream Tail is decently fast, Disable is excellent for a Perish-Trap Team, because Pokemon will usually only have one way to damage Scream Tail, and Disable will lock them out of it.

Perish Song is the most important move of the set, as this lets Scream Tail set Perish Song and have Pokemon faint in three turns.

Lastly, Protect is great for stalling the turns necessary for Perish Song to take effect.

Best Tera Type

Tera Steel is chosen for this build, as it can grant Scream Tail resistances to its regular weaknesses as well as an immunity to Poison. While this is valuable, it is not recommended to Terastallize Scream Tail unless absolutely necessary.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are given to HP, with 60 each given to Attack. While not meant to be offensive, Scream Tail can deal decent damage to Fairy-weak Pokemon when it has to using Play Rough. 60 Defense EVs and 36 Special Defense EVs lets it more comfortably take neutral hits.

100 Speed plus booster energy allows Scream Tail to outspeed unboosted Iron Bundle and speed ties with +3 Speed Jolly Dondozo.

Other Viable Moves

Substitute Substitute can help Scream Tail stall out turns on turns where it can't use Protect

Ability and Held Item

As with all Past Paradox Pokemon, Scream Tail has Protosynthesis. Booster Energy is consumed as soon as Scream Tail enters the field, which boosts its Defense stat.

Moves Breakdown

Scream Tail is given enough Attack EVs to OHKO Roaring Moon with Play Rough. As Scream Tail is decently bulky, Howl is excellent for boosting your side's Attack stat, so pairing Scream Tail up with Physical Attackers is a good option.

Encore can lock opponents into disadvantageous moves.

Lastly, Protect is great for protecting Scream Tail on turns where it is in danger of getting double targeted.

Best Tera Type

Tera Steel is chosen for this build, as it can grant Scream Tail resistances to its regular weaknesses as well as an immunity to Poison. While this is valuable, it is not recommended to Terastallize Scream Tail unless absolutely necessary.

How to Use Scream Tail Effectively

Use Scream Tail as a Sun Team Tank

Scream Tail's Protosynthesis gives it a 30% increase to its Defense stat, while Calm Mind allows it to receive Special Attacks with ease. By cycling through Wish and Calm Mind, Scream Tail can increase its offensive and defensive capabilities long enough to dish out heavy damage with Dazzling Gleam or Stored Power.

Paradox Pokemon Builds for Competitive Battles and Tera Raids

How to Build a Team with Scream Tail

Scream Tail's ability Protosynthesis require Harsh Sunlight, so use Scream Tail as a tank for a Sun Team.

Sample Drought Team

Sun Setter / Special Attacker Tank Physical Attacker
Torkoal ImageTorkoal Scream Tail ImageScream Tail Arcanine ImageArcanine

A Torkoal holding an Eject Button can work as a Sun setter that can easily switch out to Scream Tail. From there, Torkoal can come out again during the late game to dish out sun-boosted STAB Fire-type attacks, or simply set up harsh sunlight for Arcanine.

Sample Orichalcum Pulse Team

Sun Setter / Physical Attacker Tank Special Sweeper
Koraidon ImageKoraidon Scream Tail ImageScream Tail Charizard ImageCharizard

Similar to the first team, Koraidon serves as a Sun setter that should switch out to Scream Tail. From there, you can wall your opponents with Scream Tail, then switch out to Koraidon or Charizard depending on the situation.

Sample Doubles Team

Support Perish Song User / Special Attacker
Gothitelle ImageGothitelle Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Perish Song User Support / Redirection
Scream Tail ImageScream Tail Amoonguss ImageAmoonguss

Wolfe Glick's 2023 Orlando Regional Championship winning Perish Trap team has Scream Tail as one of its Perish Song users. Flutter Mane is on the team as an offensive lead and Perish Song user as well.

Using Booster Energy to boost Scream Tail's Speed, it is often able to set Perish Song quickly. The team makes use of defensive Pokemon such as Gothitelle and Amoonguss and making good decisions on switching to achieve victory.

While this team did win a major tournament, it requires patience, game knowledge, and excellent prediction to pilot proficiently.

Counters for Scream Tail

Use Paradox Pokemon or Pokemon with Unaware

Scream Tail's Defensive boost from its ability requires Harsh Sunlight to activate, so by using Pokemon with the same Ability, and the boost goes to your offensive stats, you remain on equal footing against Scream Tail.

Alternatively, Pokemon with the Unaware ability ignores stat changes from the opposing Pokemon, rendering Calm Mind useless.
