Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Gimmighoul Chest Form
Gimmighoul Coins are rare items you can collect to evolve your own Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV)! Read on to learn how to farm Gimmighoul Coins, a map for the locations of Gimmighoul Chests, and how to use these Coins.

Gimmighoul Coin and Chest Locations

Gimmighoul Chest Form Map

Click the chest icon in the top right of the map below to show all Gimmighoul Chest locations!

Then, click Name on the left to show details of the levels and number of coins of each Gimmighoul Chest.

Coin count from each location is fixed

The number of Gimmighoul Coins that you'll get from each chest is the same for all players, and will not change even if you restart your save data.

Unlock all the Ride Upgrades first

We recommend unlocking all the Ride Upgrades for Koraidon and Miraidon first before you start collecting Gimmighoul Coins, as some of the chests are located on terrain that can only be reached with specific Ride Upgrades.

Receive 20 Gimmighoul Coins in Medali

You can receive 20 Gimmighoul Coins from an NPC in Medali. You can find him on the west square, near some ice cream stands.

NPC will collect extra Gimmighoul Coins

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) - Extra Gimmighoul Coins

The same NPC will also keep extra Gimmighoul Coins that you won't be able to carry in your bag if you get more once you have 999 Coins.

This will allow you to collect more Coins even if you have a full pocket, and will be useful once you use all your coins as you'll have spare Coins waiting!

Once you have space for more Coins, simply talk to the NPC to collect all the extra Coins you've obtained.

Receive Postcards from Pokemon GO

If you connect your Pokemon GO account with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you will be able to send Postcards from the mobile app to the game.

Once you receive a Postcard from Pokemon GO, you can obtain 50 Gimmighoul Coins along with other items. You can also do this once per day, so you can have a steady supply of Gimmighoul Coins!

How to Use Gimmighoul Coins

Evolve Gimmighoul With 999 Coins

Pokemon SV - Gholdengo

Gimmighoul will drop Gimmighoul Coins that, after collecting 999 Coins, will evolve your own Gimmighoul to Gholdengo on the next level up.

Coins are consumed

After evolving to Gholdengo, all 999 Coins in your inventory will be consumed. You will need to collect 999 Coins from wild Gimmighoul again if you want to evolve another Gimmighoul.

Sell for 200 Pokedollars

Gimmighoul Coins can also be sold in shops for 200 Pokedollars each. You can sell some Coins if you're short on Pokedollars, but we recommend other money-farming methods than selling these rare items.

Exchanged for League Points

The Gimmighoul Coins can also be exchanged in TM Machines for 10 LP, but we also don't recommend it due to the low conversion rate.

Chest Form

Drops 30~777 Coins

Pokemon SV - 50 Gimmighoul Coins dropped

Each Gimmighoul in Chest Form will commonly drop around 30 to 60 Coins. Sometimes you'll get 100 coins but if you're lucky, you'll be rewarded with up to 777 coins.

This is the fastest way to farm Gimmighoul Coins.

Catch or defeat Chest Forms

Pokemon SV - Gimmighoul registered

The Gimmighoul in their Chest Form will also start a battle if you interact with them. You will only get the Coins after you defeat them in battle or catch them.

Usually found on watchtowers

Gimmighoul Chest Forms are usually found on top of watchtowers, which are marked as small brown circles on your map.

Respawns After Some Time

Through our experience and testimony from the comments section, we've confirmed that Chest Forms respawn on the watchtowers. We still haven't identified how much time is needed before they respawn, but it seems it can be anywhere between two and a half hours to a full day. Let us know in the comments how long it took before the Gimmighoul Chests in your world respawned!

Battle is inescapable

Once the battle against a Gimmighoul Chest commences, you won't be able to run away. Make sure you're prepared as some of them are at Lv50!

Roaming Form

Drops 1~200 Coins

Pokemon SV - 3 Gimmighoul Coins dropped

Gimmighoul in Roaming Form will commonly drop around 1 to 5 Coins. There's a slight chance of getting 10 to 30 coins from the Roaming Gimmighoul but if you're lucky, you can get up to 200 Coins.

Interact to obtain Coins

Pokemon SV - interacting with Gimmighoul

If you find a Gimmighoul in its Roaming Form, you only need to interact with it by pressing the A button to obtain Coins. You won't be able to fight them in this form and will disappear after dropping Gimmighoul Coins.

Usually found on signs, rocks, and bridges

Pokemon SV - Gimmighoul on a signboard

Roaming Forms are usually found on signboards, rocks, and bridges, but they can also be found in other areas. They are extremely easy to miss due to their size, so they are easier to find by checking obvious spots like the ones mentioned.

Respawns over time

Gimmighoul Roaming Forms are confirmed by the walkthrough to respawn over time! It will only take less than 24 hours for these Gimmighoul forms to appear.

Cries when you're spotted

You will hear a Roaming Form's cry when you get close enough for it to see you. Look around your current position whenever you hear its cry!

It seems they have a chance to respawn each in game day. I've been checking all my towers pretty regularly and they only seem to respawn after long play periods like you suggest.

In Area 2 of the North Province there are 10 roaming Ghimmighoul coins that respawn on top of the Pokecentre.
