Fight with Pokemon Trainers from all over the world with the Battle Stadium Feature! Connect throught the internet and navigate through the PokePortal menu and you will get four options when you get to the index: Casual Battles, Ranked Battles, Online Competitions, and Rental Teams.
Just like with the other online features of the game, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the Battle Stadium. However, you do not need a Pokemon Global Link Account. To use the Battle Stadium, you may need to install update data that may become available on or after the games' release date.
Ranked Battles allow you to use your favorite team and battle with various trainers all over the world. These run in Single and Double Battles with rules that change through every season. Here, trainers will be sorted into different tiers based on how well they do in battles. Battle for glory as you increase your rank and try to become the best there ever was.
Your rank increases as you win more battles. Be warned as trainers with higher ranks will be much stronger than ones of lower ranks.
The trainers you are up against will have the same rank as you, which means you will always need to be prepared for anything! You can check your own ranking from within the battle stadium.
There are various tiers that encompass each rank. Here, you can get rewards depending on your rank, the higher the rank the better the rewards! The top tier, known as the Master Ball Tier, is where the the most difficult battles will happen with powerful trainers.
Best Pokemon Tierlist
Casual Battles are unranked battles that are just for fun. You can enjoy Pokemon battles to your heart's content without worrying about your rank changing based on whether you win or lose.
There are no restrictions on the Pokemon you can choose to use.
Currently, this option in the Battle Stadium menu is still under works but is listed as an option for Trainers. According to the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website you can have either Official Competitions with set rules to compete in different rankings or set up Friendly Competitions with your friends using custom rules.
In Online Competitions, you get to take part in Special Battles that make use of a variety of rules and restrictions to see where you place among the participants. The first Online Competition is slated to begin in Spring 2023.
Host your own competitions with your friends using this feature! Set up your own Pokemon Competitions with your friends or join one your friends made. The rules can be customized to fit however Trainers like.
Rental Teams make a return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, allowing players to use a pre-made team by obtaining someone else's ID online. Introduced in Generation 7, Trainers can share a team they created and can be used by other players in a variety of battles. These teams can be used in many different modes, including Ranked battles.
Rental Teams for Ranked Battle
In order to be the very best, you're gonna need to assemble a team of Pokemon with great synergy and coverage in order prepare for any Trainer that stands in your way.
Defining the roles your team needs make it easier to choose the right Pokemon to level and train for the competitive scene.
These are the four major roles to consider:
These are Pokemon sent out first at the beginning of the battle and are often used to establish offensive momentum and disrupt the opponent's game plan.
In Series 2, the shift towards a more aggressive playstyle means that offensive leads are now more common that defensive and utility leads such as Roaring Moon and Dragonite.
These Pokemon boast high defensive stats, key type resistances, and support moves. Their main role is to take multiple strong hits throughout the battle.
In Series 2, walls that can disrupt or prevent offensive Pokemon from setting up and sweeping are more valued thanks to the more aggressive-oriented climate. Pokemon like Clodsire and Garganacl are amazing choices for this role.
These are your primary attackers, with a well-rounded team being composed of both physical and special attackers. In Series 2, sweepers that boast great coverage are more valued in the fast-paced metagame. Examples of these are Flutter Mane and Gholdengo.
These Pokemon can either support your team offensively with distruptive moves and extra coverage, or defensively by using support moves that benefit the rest of the team. They are always great to use even in Series 2's more offensive-oriented metagame. Great choices for this role are Wash Rotom and Grimmsnarl to name a few.
Competitive Singles Team Building Guide
Pokemon selection, their roles and what they contribute are important factors to consider when building a team. Putting a Pokemon into your team with purpose and understanding how they synergize with the rest of the team will largely affect how the team performs, and how you look at and analyze other teams.
A core refers to a group of Pokemon that naturally have synergy together, where each Pokemon is covered by its teammates offensively and defensively. Having a good mix of Physical and Special Attackers, Pokemon with different Speeds, as well as Support Pokemon make for effective Doubles teams. With two pokemon on the field, you can effectively set up and support with one Pokemon and attack with another. Great examples of these are Weather Cores and Trick Room Cores.
In Series 2, the shift towards a more aggressive playstyle due to the addition of Paradox Pokemon means that Sun and Electric Terrain setters are prevalent. However, Series 1 staples such as Dondozo and Tatsugiri are still popular picks.
VGC Doubles Team Building Guide
The Series label for Ranked Battles has now been renamed to Regulation. This change of name came along when Pokemon released an announcement about Regulation C of Ranked Battles which will run on April to June 2023.
This means that all future Ranked Battles will also be labeled as Regulation instead of Series and will now use a letter instead of a number. Additionally, the previous Series 1 and Series 2 are now being referred to as Regulation A and B respectively.
Do note that Seasons, which still use numbers, will retain their name formatting.
