Use Leer to lower the Raid Boss' Defense. Boost Iron Boulder's Attack with Swords Dance. Use Mighty Cleave to deal damage to the Raid Boss. |
Take advantage of Iron Boulder's ability, Quark Drive, and place an Electric Terrain to boost its Attack by an additional 30%.
Iron Boulder's attack can be further boosted with Swords Dance, pairing this with Leer to lower the Raid Boss' Defense, maximizing the damage Iron Boulder will deal when it uses its signature-move, Mighty Cleave.
This build recommends Iron Boulder to have a Rock Tera Type to maximize the damage dealt by Mighty Cleave as it's a Rock-type move.
As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature is the recommended nature. If your Iron Boulder happens to have a different nature, you can use an Adamant Mint to change its nature.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense to increase survivability while dealing the maximum damage possible. EV Train to max out Iron Boulder's Attack and HP, adding the remaining EVs into Speed.
Let Iron Boulder hold a Shell Bell to restore health when it deals damage, increasing its survivability against raid bosses.
Iron Boulder Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 (Optional) | Use Sandstorm to boost your Special Defense stat by 50% when facing special attackers. |
Turns 2~4 | Use Swords Dance to increase Iron Boulder's Attack. |
Turn 5 | Use Electric Terrain for Iron Boulder's Quark Drive ability, further increasing its damage. |
Turns 6~8 | Use Mighty Cleave to build Tera Orb charge, terastallizing when possible |
Turns 9+ | Terastallize and keep using Mighty Cleave until you beat the raid boss. Feel free to set up any buffs or debuffs you may have lost. |
Start the raid battle with Swords Dance and use it three times to boost Iron Boulder's Attack. You can place a Sandstorm to increase Iron Boulder's special defense when fighting against special attackers, while also dealing a bit of damage to the raid boss.
Place an Electric Terrain to make use of Iron Boulder's Quark Drive ability and further increase its damage output.
After setting everything up, use Mighty Cleave to deal damage and build its Tera Orb Charge. Terastallize to double the STAB for Mighty Cleave and continue using it until the Raid Boss is defeated.

This Iron Boulder Rock Tera Raid Build is an effective counter to Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug Type Tera Raid Bosses. If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Fighting, Ground or Steel Type outside of Terastallization, perhaps consider a different build, as Iron Boulder will be weak to these Types as a Rock-type attacker.

Use Leer to lower the Raid Boss' Defense Boost Iron Boulder's Attack with Swords Dance and Quark Drive via Electric Terrain Attack the Raid Boss with Psycho Cut with the move's passive crit ratio boost |
Iron Boulder's ability, Quark Drive, gives it a 30% Atk Boost in Tera Raid Battles. Instead of having Iron Boulder hold a Booster Energy to activate this ability, use Electric Terrain before attacking instead.
Before using Psycho Cut for damage, use Leer to decrease the Raid Boss Defense, then Swords Dance to increase Iron Boulder's Attack. Lasty, activate Quark Drive by using Electric Terrain for that last boost of damage, then start using Psycho Cuts afterwards.
We also recommend getting a Iron Boulder with a Psychic Tera Type for the extra damage boost with Psychic moves. As a Physical Attacker, Adamant nature would be best.

Turns 2~4 | Use Swords Dance to maximize Iron Boulder's Attack. |
Turns 5 | Use Electric Terrain to activate Quark Drive. |
Turns 5+ | Use Psycho Cut and Terastallize when possible. |
Start the raid battle by using Leer once or twice to decrease to Boss' defense. Alternatively, you can use Taunt to disable any disruptive Status Moves the Raid Boss may have.
Maximize Iron Boulder's attack to 6 stages by using Swords Dance for 3 turns. Then use Electric Terrain for another source of an extra attack boost from Quark Drive.
Now that you're done setting up everything, it's time to dish out attacks. Use Psycho Cut to deal damage and build Tera Orb Charge. Thanks to your Shell Bell, you'll be able to recover some of your HP when you attack as well!
Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, terastallize and continue using Psycho Cut until the Raid Boss goes down.
