Calyrex Shadow Rider's only ability is As One (Shadow Rider). This ability combines Spectrier's Grim Neigh and Calyrex' Unnerve into one ability.

The item chosen for this build is a Life Orb. This boosts Calyrex Shadow Rider's damage output without it having to lock into a single move.

Moves Breakdown

Astral Barrage Psyshock
Tera Blast Nasty Plot

Astral Barrage and Psyshock combine for a power pair of STAB moves that are difficult to resist thanks to the moves targeting the opponent's Special Defense and Defense respectively.

Tera Blast lets Calyrex Shadow Rider deal with Dark-types that would normally resist both of its STAB moves once it Terastallizes.

Nasty Plot is used to boost Calyrex Shadow Rider's Special Attack by two stages and punish Pokemon that cannot easily knock it out.

Fighting and Fairy are the best Tera Types for this build because they allow Calyrex Shadow Rider to counter Dark-types with a super-effective Tera Blast.

Both types turn Calyrex Shadow Rider's Ghost and Dark weaknesses into a neutral hit and resist respectively. The main thing to note is that Fighting provides better offensive coverage while Fairy provides better defensive coverage.

Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are placed in Calyrex Shadow Rider's Sp. Atk and Speed to make it hit as hard and fast as possible. The extra 4 EVs are put into its HP to help round out its bulk.

A Timid nature is preferred to help Calyrex Shadow Rider outspeed as many Pokemon as possible.

Other Viable Moves

Grass Knot Helps Calyrex Shadow Rider deal with common Pokemon that are used to wall it like Ting-Lu.
Psychic Does slightly more damage than Psyshock, but makes Calyrex Shadow Rider susceptible to being walled by Pokemon with a high Special Defense.
Draining Kiss Lets Calyrex deal with Dark-types without it having to Terastallize. Ideally, it would need to have a Nasty Plot boost and Tera Fairy to be more effective than Tera Blast.
Agility Used to help Calyrex Shadow Rider outspeed Pokemon who have their Speed boosted.
Encore Punishes passive Pokemon and opposing setup sweepers by locking them into the last move they used.

How to Use Calyrex (Shadow Rider) Effectively

Snowball Calyrex Shadow Rider with Grim Neigh Boosts

Sometimes Calyrex Shadow Rider doesn't need to use Nasty Plot to boost its damage, but instead, it could get a quick knockout and start boosting its Special Attack with Grim Neigh boosts instead.

Save Terastallization for the Perfect Moment

Terastallization is a very important tool to ensure Calyrex Shadow Rider stays alive and doesn't get knocked out by moves with an increased priority.

If you don't use or have Terastallization, Calyrex Shadow Rider can easily get knocked out by Shadow Sneak or Sucker Punch. On the other hand, if you use it too early, it could get knocked out by moves like Extreme Speed or Bullet Punch if it Terastallizes to Fairy.

How to Build a Team with Calyrex (Shadow Rider)

Calyrex Shadow Rider appreciates teammates who can support it by allowing it to set up boosts and sweep the enemy team.

Tapu Lele acts as a strong offensive lead while also being an amazing support for Calyrex Shadow Rider because of Psychic Surge boosting the damage of its Psychic-type moves and preventing the opponent from targetting it with priority moves.

Urshifu Rapid Strike is used to help deal with some of the Pokemon that can wall Calyrex Shadow Rider like Ting-Lu or Garganacl.

Rillaboom is strong against opposing Calyrex (Shadow Rider), while Incineroar offers a resistance to opposing Astral Barrage, as well as Intimidate for opposing Groudon and Calyrex (Ice Rider).
