Moveset | ・
Trick
・ Calm Mind ・ Stored Power ・ Torment |
This build focuses on using Trick to lock your opponent into using the same move, and can not switch out because of Gothitelle's Shadow Tag. Torment allows Gothitelle to survive longer, since your opponent will use Struggle every other turn.
Once your opponent is Choice-locked, you can use Calm Mind to boost your Sp. Atk and Sp. Def, allowing you to deal massive damage with Stored Power.
With max Speed EVs, Timid nature, and Choice Scarf, Gothitelle's Speed is equal to that of a Jolly Meowscarada. Going first against most Pokemon allows you to catch them off guard with Trick, locking them in their setup moves.
Psychic | An alternative damage move that does not rely much on Stored Power. |
---|---|
Baton Pass | Can be taken instead of Torment to pass the buffs to a Sweeper. |
Trick Room | A niche alternative for Torment when used as part of a Trick Room team. Also works well with Trick + Choice Scarf |

Moveset | ・
Trick
・ Perish Song ・ Protect ・ Torment |
This build uses Gothitelle as a Kamikaze staller, specifically built to take out your opponent's sweepers.
Trick allows Gothitelle to lock your opponent into using a single move, and Torment forces your opponent to use Struggle every other turn.
Perish Song and Shadow Tag guarantees a KO as long as your opponent can't KO Gothitelle to switch out. Protect allows you to block hits in between Struggles.
With max Speed EVs, Timid nature, and Choice Scarf, Gothitelle's Speed is equal to that of a Jolly Meowscarada. Going first against most Pokemon allows you to catch them off guard with Trick, locking them in to their setup moves.
Hypnosis | An alternative status move that can be taken instead of Torment. |

Future Sight | A damaging move that allows you to deal damage even after Perish Song. |

Moveset | ・
Trick Room
・ Hypnosis ・ Protect ・ Fake Out |
This build offers no offensive pressure at all, but instead focuses on being supportive and defensive. Fake Out and Protect are used to stall out turns for Perish Song, which Gothitelle's partner sets up.
With Hypnosis, Gothitelle can put all its opponents to sleep in Trick Room where it can move ahead of faster Pokemon. This makes Gothitelle even more disruptive.
Iapapa Berry is Gothitelle's held item because it allows it to stay in the match longer.
Tera Dark helps Gothitelle survive the most powerful super-effective Dark or Ghost-type moves.
Psyshock | Psyshock offers Gothitelle a STAB offensive move to use in a pinch. |
---|---|
Substitute | Substitute lets Gothitelle be even more annoying because it can potentially protect it for an additional turn. |
Heal Pulse | Heal Pulse ensures that Gothitelle's partner is always healthy. |

Draco Meteor 64 ~ 75 (36.1 ~ 42.3%) Guaranteed 3-Hit KO |
Gothitelle's Shadow Tag prevents opponents from switching out. After its partner uses Perish Song, you will have three turns to stall before the opposing side faints.
Gothitelle can effectively stall out one turn with Fake Out, and another turn with Protect. This combination makes Gothitelle difficult to double target and KO.
After Perish Song takes out 2 of your opponent's Pokemon, you may have the Pokemon advantage in a 3 vs 2.
In a 2 vs 2, powerful offensive Pokemon that are difficult to outspeed or knock out will help you win the match.
Gothitelle with a Choice Scarf and Trick works best as a Lead Pokemon for disrupting early game setups. Shadow Tag also works as the natural counter to Palafin.
Lead Support | Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |

Gothitelle | Gholdengo | Salamence |
Gothitelle serves as your lead, disrupting the enemy team's setup with Trick, then setting up with Calm Mind to deal heavy damage with Stored Power.
Gholdengo and Salamence function as sweepers, coming in to finish the enemy team after Gothitelle dishes out enough damage.

Dragapult | Gothitelle | Gholdengo |
Since you will sacrifice Gothitelle to go down with your opponent's carry, having an offensive lead allows you to KO or at least deal heavy damage against the enemy team.
With this build, you should lead with another Pokemon and not Gothitelle, so you can wait until your opponent sends out their sweeper, then easily knock it out with Perish Song.

Gothitelle | Flutter Mane |

Ting-Lu | Wo-Chien |
Perish Trap benefits greatly from both Wo-Chien and Ting-Lu, who both lend their powerful signature Abilities to strengthening their team's defense. Having either of the two Treasures of Ruin can help Perish Trap succeed in scoring Perish Song KOs, thanks to their signature Abilities, but also their defensive toolkits.
Ghost-type Pokemon are immune to the trapping effects of Shadow Tag, which means they can switch out whenever they please. Pokemon with switching moves such as Volt Switch and U-Turn can also bypass the effects of Shadow Tag.
