Escape from battle in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) by choosing the Run option during a wild Pokemon battle. Read on to learn how to run away from a battle, items and abilities that can help you escape, and what moves prevent you from running away from a battle.

How to Escape From Battle

Select Run in Battle Options

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Quaxly vs Lechonk

During battle, simply select the Run option to run away. It's the button at the bottom right of the screen, underneath Battle, Pokemon, and Bag. You can only run away from wild encounters with Pokemon. You can't run away from trainer battles.

Speed Affects Escape Success

It becomes harder to run away from wild Pokemon that have a higher Speed stat than the Pokemon you have engaged in battle. In that case, you can switch to a Pokemon with a higher Speed or use an item that will allow you to trigger an escape.

Items that Help Escape

Poke Doll and Smoke Ball

You can use a Poke Doll or a Smoke Ball to guarantee your escape from battle. Poke Dolls can be bought from a store in the game while Smoke Balls are usually found at a specific locations in the overworld.

Item	Description
Poke Doll	A doll that attracts the attention of a Pokemon. It guarantees escape from any battle with wild Pokemon.
Smoke Ball	An item to be held by a Pokemon. It enables the holder to flee from any wild Pokemon encounter without fail.

Abilities that Help Escape

Run Away Ability

The Run Away ability guarantees a succesful escape from battle, so you can run away when you have a Pokemon with this ability engaged in battle. Below are the Pokemon with Run Away ability:
