Level up your Pokemon to 44 Catch and level up Water Pokemon
|
By levelling your Pokemon to level 44, you have a better chance at defeating Donphan. Most Pokemon also reach their final Evolution forms at around this level, so you will have access to even stronger moves and stats.
Since both Donphan Titans are Ground Type Pokemon, using Water Type moves will always be Super Effective, regardless of the version you are playing on.
Pokémon | Type | Moves |
---|---|---|
Great Tusk
Recommended Lv. 44 |
Great Tusk's Type is Ground/Fighting, having access to both Ground and Fighting type moves. Using Pokemon like Gyarados which resist Fighting types, and is completely immune to Ground Type moves, as well as dealing Super Effective Water attacks. Using Psychic type Pokemon may feel like an alternative, but Great Tusk has access to the move Knock Off which is Super Effective against Psychic type Pokemon.
Pokémon | Type | Moves |

Iron Treads
Recommended Lv. 44 |
・ Iron Head ・ Stomping Tantrum ・ Fire Fang |
Similar to Great Tusk, Iron Treads has Steel and Ground type moves, with Steel moves dealing half damage against water types, and Ground type moves doing zero damage against flying types.
During the initial battle, the only option is to defeat Donphan. However, after defeating it, it will be back in its regular non Titan size the next time you return to the area. You are then able to catch it. As Donphan is a Ground type, be sure to bring along a Pokemon that can resist its attacks such as Gyarados.
Make sure to stock up on Pokeballs, with Great Ball and Ultra Ball being the common options, but under certain conditions, special Pokeballs such as Dusk Balls, Timer Balls, and Repeat Balls can be more effective.
List of All Pokeballs
Since Donphan is a Ground type Pokemon, using Grass Type Pokemon can make the battle easier. Grass type Pokemon also often have access to moves like Stun Spore and Sleep Powder, which can help increase your chances of catching Donphan.
If you have access to a Pokemon that knows the move False Swipe, using the move when Donphan is low on HP can ensure that it will not faint, as False Swipe always leaves the target with at least 1 HP.

Pokemon that were previously Titan Pokemon will also have a special Mark, along with the Title: Former Titan which is presented as in game battle text denoting that they were previously Titan Pokemon. If you do capture them or accidentally defeat them a second time, the Titan Pokemon will no longer appear in the area however, so choose wisely.
List of Marks and How to Get All Marks
The Titan Great Tusk, or Iron Treads is the Largest that exists in the game. Showing it to the person who gives you the Size-Dex gives your Great Tusk/Iron Treads a Jumbo Mark, and the Title: The Great to denote that it is the largest amongst its species!
How to Catch Titan Pokemon
Unfortunately, as with all of the other static encounter in the game, such as the Starter Pokemon and Legendaries, the Titan Pokemon are shiny locked. This includes your second encounter with them in their regular sized form, so unfortunately you will not be able to shiny hunt for a shiny former Titan.
