When Ogrepon has a Mask Held Item (Wellspring Mask, Hearthflame Mash, or Cornerstone Mask, not the Teal Mask base form), it receives an additional 20% damage boost on all moves, regardless of whether they are STAB or not.
This bonus also applies even if Ogrepon is not Terastallized. This amounts to a total of a 1.7x damage boost when accounting for STAB + Mask Boost. If Terastallized and using a move which matches the Tera Type, this reaches up to a 2.2x Damage boost!
State when Attacking | Damage Boost |
---|---|
Holding Mask | 1.2x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move | 1.7x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move + Terastallized (if Tera Type matches Move type) | 2.2x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move + Terastallized (if Tera Type matches Move type) + Embody Aspect Attack Boost | 2.7x |

Mold Breaker | Hearthflame Mask |
Ogerpon's Ability when it is in its Hearthflame Mask form is Mold Breaker, which will allow it to use moves, regardless of effects the effects of the opponent's Abilities. Ogerpon also uniquely has Embody Aspect, an additional ability that triggers upon Terastallization, and gives Ogerpon a stat boost based on what Mask it is wearing.
In this form, Ogerpon will get an Attack boost upon Terastallization.
The chosen Held Item for this build is the Hearthflame Mask, which will change Ogerpon's type to Fire / Grass when held.
Ivy Cudgel | Play Rough |
Swords Dance | Trailblaze |
Ivy Cudgel, or 'Fire Cudgel' as it is sometimes called in the community, is Ogerpon's strongest STAB attack. Ivy Cudgel in this form is a powerful Fire-type attack that doesn't make contact.
Trailblaze are Ogerpon's other STAB Attack. Traiblaze is a Grass-type attack that increases Ogerpon's speed by one stage after attacking.
Play Rough is a good coverage move that will threaten many of the strong Fighting, Dragon, and Dark types in the current metagame.
Swords Dance boosts Ogerpon's attack by two stages. This synergizes well with its Hearthflame form, since Ogerpon gets another attack boost after Terastallizing thanks to Embody Aspect.

Full Attack and Speed EV investment, as well as an Adamant Nature ensures that Ogerpon hits as hard and as fast as possible with its moves, while the remaining 4 EVs are placed in Sp. Def to slightly boost its bulk.
Wood Hammer
or Power Whip |
Both of these moves hit harder than Trailblaze at the cost of not gaining any speed boosts. Power Whip is less accurate, while Wood Hammer has 33% recoil damage. |

Wood Hammer | Ivy Cudgel |
Knock Off | Spiky Shield |
Wood Hammer is a strong Grass-type STAB Move that inflicts recoil damage on Ogerpon.
Ivy Cudgel, or 'Fire Cudgel' as it is sometimes called in the community, is a powerful coverage option with 100 Base Power. It will be a Fire-type Attack in this build.
It is worth noting that this can hit Tera Grass Heatran for super-effective damage thanks to Mold Breaker. Ivy Cudgel will not damage Heatran if Ogerpon Terastallizes because Mold Breaker will be replaced by Embody Aspect.
Knock Off is a strong utility move that can also be disruptive because of its ability to remove an opposing Pokemon's valuable Held Item.
Spiky Shield can protect Ogerpon and deal a small amount of damage to the opponent upon contact.

Fire and Grass are a unique offensive type combination that hasn't been seen outside of Scovillain. Make sure to use its strong STAB coverage moves to keep your opponent on their toes.
Utilize Hearthflame Masks bonus to Attack with Embody Aspect to deal tons of damage to opposing Pokemon. Even Pokemon that take neutral damage from Ivy Cudgel can still get OHKO.
Hearthflame Ogerpon is naturally suited to Sun Teams. Tornadus can manually set up Sun, while Torkoal can set it up when it enters the field, and can even support it with Yawn.
Focus Sash Lead | Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Glimmora | Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) | Flutter Mane |
Ogerpon Hearthflame Mask is best used on a fast hyper offense team in order to best use its unique Fire / Grass typing. Terastallizing to activate Embody Aspect's Attack boost will also help ensure easy knock outs.
Use Glimmora or other hazard setters as your lead to cause chip damage with moves like Stealth Rock to break any Focus Sashes and have another fast Pokemon with strong coverage like Flutter Mane in the back.
Support / Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) | Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |
Torkoal | Flutter Mane |
Tornadus is able to support Ogerpon with Tailwind, as well as set up Sun for it so that it can use powerful, Sun-boosted Ivy Cudgels.
Torkoal can also set up Sun, and provide Yawn support if necessary.
Flutter Mane can improve the team's match up against Chien-Pao and Dragonite, being immune to Extreme Speed, and being able to threaten both with Fairy-type attacks. It also has natural synergy with Sun because of Protosynthesis.
While Ogerpon is decently fast, Priority and faster Pokemon can handily deal with it.
The best users of Priority are the combo of Chien-Pao and Dragonite, who both can threaten Ogerpon with their offensive options.
