List of Contents
Chansey Supply | Delibird Presents |
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, most training and breeding items you'll need are available in shops across Paldea. This means, as long as you have enough money and League Points, you'll be able to train and breed your ideal Pokemon.
Item | Price | Description |
---|---|---|
Everstone |
₽10,000 | When a Pokemon holds an Everstone while breeding, the Pokemon will pass on its Nature to its offspring. |
Destiny Knot |
₽20,000 | If one parent holds the Destiny Knot, 5 of the 12 IVs between both parents will be passed down to their offspring. |
Power Items |
₽20,000 | Although not as effective as the Destiny Knot, having a parent hold a Power Item guarantees one specific IV out of the 12 to be passed down to the offspring. |
Bottle Caps |
₽20,000 | Use Bottle Caps to Hyper Train your Pokemon and raise their Individual Values (IVs). Hyper Training can now be done starting at Lv. 50! |
Mirror Herb |
₽30,000 | Buy one, and give to a Pokemon to transfer an Egg Move during a picnic. Item will be held by the recipient of the Egg move, and both Pokemon does not necessarily need to be in the same Egg Group. |
Item | Price | Description |
---|---|---|
Vitamins |
₽10,000 | One vitamin gives a Pokemon 10 EVs in a certain stat like HP for HP Up, Attack for Protein, Defense from Iron, etc. |
Mints |
₽20,000 | Sold after you defeat your 6th Gym Leader. This item changes the effect of your Pokemon's Nature as if it was another Nature altogether. |
PP Up |
₽10,000 | Slightly raises the PP of a Pokemon's specific move. Can only be bought after finishing the game once. |
Ability Capsule |
₽100,000 | Changes your Pokemon's Ability. Sold after you finish the game once. |
Koraidon and Miraidon are both legendary Pokemon, and one of them will join your party once you finish the game. Though they have fixed Individual Values and Natures, you can still have these altered with Bottle Caps and Mints respectively.
There are only three known ways to grind for a Pokemon with the Tera Type that you want:
Unfortunately, Tera Shards are rare rewards gained from high-level, multi-star Tera Raids, so you'll have to grind a lot of Tera Raids to get them. As for Tera Raids, you won't know which Pokemon you'll get until you fight the battle. You'll only know the Pokemon's Tera Type.
We recommend you study the locations of Tera Pokemon out in the wild and look for a Pokemon with your preferred Tera Type there. We have a list of all wild Tera Pokemon in Paldea that you can check out below.
All Wild Tera Pokemon Locations
Before training and breeding powerful Pokemon, we recommend that you first clear the Great Crater of Paldea quest that comes after finishing all three main storylines (Victory Road, Path of Legends, and Starfall Street).
After the ending, essential items like PP Up and the Ability Capsule become available for purchase, which are both invaluable in training and breeding.
Breeding Requirements | |
---|---|
A lot of money and League Points |
Breeding is an expensive process because of all the breeding items you'll need to buy from shops. |
A Ditto |
Catch one in the wild. It's not as important to get a Ditto with high IVs compared to previous games, due to the accessibility of Bottle Caps. But having a Ditto is still useful. |
Sandwiches |
Make Sandwiches that increase Egg Power, which helps you get eggs faster. |
A Pokemon that helps eggs hatch faster |
These are Pokemon that have either the Flame Body, Steam Engine, or Magma Armor ability. |
When you want to cultivate IVs and Natures | |
Parent Pokemon with High IVs |
Make sure the parent is holding an item that will let them pass on their IVs more efficiently. |
Destiny Knot |
If one parent holds the Destiny Knot, 5 of the 12 IVs between both parents will be passed down to their offspring. |
Everstone |
When a Pokemon holds an Everstone while breeding, the Pokemon will pass on its Nature to its offspring. |
Item | Price | Description |
---|---|---|
Bottle Caps |
₽20,000 | Use this to Hyper Train your Pokemon's IVs as long as they're Lv. 50 and above. |
Vitamins |
₽10,000 | Use these to raise your Pokemon's EVs. |
Mints |
₽20,000 | Use these to change the effect of your Pokemon's Nature as it it was another Nature altogether. |
PP Up |
₽10,000 | Use this to raise the PP of one of your Pokemon's powerful moves. |
Feathers |
Tera Raid Battle Reward | Another type of item that increases EVs, though only by 1. Use these to fine-tune your Pokemon's EVs. |
EV Reducing Berries |
Tera Raid Battle Reward | Assorted types of berries that can reduce the EVs of specific stats by 10. Use this for EV fine-tuning as well. |
Technical Machine | Materials & League Points | Use these to teach your Pokemon specific moves. |
Mirror Herb |
₽30,000 | Have two of your Pokemon that belong in the same Egg Group hold two of these. This will let you have one of those Pokemon transfer an Egg Move to the other during a picnic. |
Breeding |
Tera Types |
Using a Ditto |
Shiny Pokemon |
1 | Get a pair of Male and Female Pokemon that are compatible with each other. Make sure they belong to the same Egg Group. |
---|---|
2 | Have one parent hold a Destiny Knot or Power Items to pass down IVs, or an Everstone to pass down Natures. Power Items include the Power Weight, Power Bracer, Power Belt, Power Lens, Power Band, and Power Anklet. |
3 | Have a Picnic. |
4 | Make a Sandwich that boosts Egg Power. |
5 | You should get an egg during the picnic. |
6 | Take the egg out of the picnic box. |
7 | Pack up the picnic and leave. Your egg has been automatically added to one of your Boxes, so make sure to add it to your party before you start walking around to hatch it. |
8 | Walk around to make the egg hatch. It will be helpful if you have a Pokemon that either has the Flame Body, Steam Engine, or Magma Armor ability in your party, as these abilities reduce the steps you need to take in order to make the egg hatch. |
9 | Check your newly-hatched Pokemon. If it doesn't have the IVs, Nature, or Ability you want, then try again. |
10 | Once you get a Pokemon with desired stats, train it. Level it up to Lv. 50, use Bottle Caps to Hyper Train its IVs, alter its Nature with Mints, raise its EVs with Vitamins, or change its Ability with the Ability Capsule. |
The easiest way to grind for a Pokemon with a Tera Type that you want is to hunt for specific wild Tera Pokemon while exploring Paldea. You can check out our guide on hunting Tera Pokemon, as well as our list of wild Tera Pokemon locations.
Since you can buy Bottle Caps with money in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV), it's not that important to get a Ditto with high IVs. Instead of breeding for a Pokemon with high IVs, you can simply have one of your current Pokemon go through Hyper Training.
But it's still helpful if you happen to have a Ditto with high IVs. If you want to, you can trade for such a Ditto at our Ditto Tradiing Board.
If you want to get a shiny version of a specific Pokemon, one of the best ways to do it is to take advantage of Mass Outbreaks.
Clear at least 60 Pokemon in the Mass Outbreak by using the Let's Go! feature, and then lay down a picnic table. This has the potential to force a Shiny Pokemon to spawn. Your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon will also increase if you ate a Sparkling Power Lv. 3 Sandwich and have a Shiny Charm.
For a more detailed explanation, visit our guide on hunting Shiny Pokemon below.
Make its stats ideal | ・Max out Your Pokemon's Individual Values (IVs) with Hyper Training using Bottle Caps. ・Change its Ability with the Ability Capsule. ・Alter its Nature with Mints. ・Change to its Hidden Ability with an Ability Patch. |
---|---|
Fine-tune its EVs | ・Raise EVs with Vitamins and Feathers. ・Use EV-Reducing Berries to reset if you over-invested your EVs into a particular stat. |
Teach Them Powerful Moves | ・Use the TM Machine at Pokemon Centers. ・Have them learn moves by leveling up. ・Have them learn Egg Moves. |
Level Them Up | ・Try to level your Pokemon up to Lv. 50 to maximize your stat boosts and moveset. ・Grind Tera Raid battles to farm Exp. Candies. |
Note that in online matches, the levels of both your Pokemon and your enemy's Pokemon will be raised to Lv. 50 if your Pokemon hasn't gotten there yet.
Also, if you want to check your IVs, use the Judge Function while checking Pokemon in your Boxes. As for EVs, check your Pokemon's summary and press the L button while you're in the second tab. You should see your EVs in the graph on the right-hand side of the screen.
Whether you've bred your Pokemon or caught it out in the wild, the first thing to do is to start altering its Ability, Hidden Ability, and Nature. This is one of the most expensive parts of the process, as the Ability Capsule needed to change a Pokemon's Ability already costs ₽100,000.
Once your Pokemon gets to a sufficient level like Level 50, buy Bottle Caps and bring them to a Hyper Trainer to max out their IVs. As for altering its Nature and Hidden Ability, use Mints and the Ability Patch respectively.
Vitamins like Protein, Iron, and Carbos are the best way to raise your EVs, though they are expensive at ₽10,000 per piece. But each of these puts 10 EVs in a Pokemon's certain stat.
You can raise a Pokemon's EVs to 252 per stat, but it can only have a total of 510 EVs across all stats. To fine-tune your EVs, use EV Reducing Berries that reduce EVs in a certain stat by 10, and Feathers that raise EVs in a specific stat by 1.
When choosing moves for your Pokemon, it is good to have a mix of moves that are the same type as your Pokemon's type (for the Same-type Attack Bonus or STAB Bonus), as well as one or two moves from a different type or types. This way, you can still damage enemies that your Pokemon is weak against if for some reason you can't switch it out or you can't run away from a battle.
To teach your Pokemon these moves, use the Technical Machine (TM) Machines at Pokemon Centers across Paldea. Make sure you have enough League Points and Materials to craft a certain TM.
You can also have your Pokemon relearn moves you may want to use again if you had them forget that move during your training.
TM Machines and How to Use Them
The most efficient way to level up in the game so far is to fight Tera Raid battles. Here, you can get Exp. Candies that you can then use on your Pokemon to raise their levels.
