The best ability for Torterra in Tera Raid Battles is Shell Armor, so that you won't have to worry about critical hits. This is especially helpful against Raid Bosses who have access to moves with high critical hit rate.
We also recommend getting a Torterra with a Ground Tera type to boost the power of Earthquake. As a Physical Attacker, Adamant nature would be best.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards Bulky Offense. Max out your HP and Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Def. Give it a Shell Bell to help Torterra recover HP when dealing damage.
| Torterra Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Use Sunny Day to set up Sun. |
| Turns 2~4 | Use Growth until your Attack is at +6. |
| Low HP Turns | Use Synthesis to bring your HP back up while setting up. |
| Turns 5+ | Use Earthquake until you defeat the raid boss. Terastallize when possible and feel free to set back up any buffs you may have lost. |
Focus on boosting your Defense first using Sunny Day to gain an upper hand with your buffs. Once Sun is up, boost your Attack using Growth.
Once your set-up is complete, simply use Earthquake until the Raid Boss is defeated. Make sure to Terastallize once you've built up enough Tera Orb charges with Earthquake.
If Torterra's HP gets low at any point, make sure to use either Synthesis or a Heal Cheer.

This Torterra Tera Raid Build is an effective counter to Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Steel Type Tera Raid Bosses. If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Grass Type outside of Terastallization, perhaps consider a different build, as Torterra will be weak to these Types as a Ground-Type attacker.

The best ability for Torterra in Tera Raid Battles is Shell Armor, so that you won't have to worry about critical hits. This is especially helpful against Raid Bosses who have access to moves with high critical hit rate.
With max Defense, the ability to set up with Reflect, and Shell Armor preventing critical hits, Torterra should be a reliably tanky Pokemon.
If you want to have an extra move slot, Reflect and Swords Dance can be substituted with Curse instead.
We also recommend getting a Torterra with a Grass Tera Type to further boost the power of its Grass-type moves and resist the Raid Boss's Water-type attacks. As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature would be best.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense. Max out your Attack and HP EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Def. Give it a Miracle Seed to boost the damage output of Seed Bomb.
| Torterra Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Use Reflect to raise your capability to take Physical Hits |
| Turns 2~4 | Use Swords Dance until your Attack is at +6. |
| Turns 5+ | Use Seed Bomb until you defeat the raid boss. Terastallize when possible. |
| Low HP Turns | Heal up using Synthesis or a Heal Cheer. |
Focus on boosting your Defense first using Reflect in order to minimize the damage you take. Once you've maxed out your Defense, boost your Attack using Swords Dance.
Once your set-up is complete, simply use Seed Bomb until the Raid Boss is defeated. Make sure to Terastallize once you've built up enough Tera Orb charges with Seed Bomb.
If Torterra's HP gets low at any point, make sure to use either Synthesis or a Heal Cheer.

The best ability for Torterra in Tera Raid Battles is Shell Armor, so that you won't have to worry about critical hits. This is especially helpful against Raid Bosses who have access to moves with high critical hit rate.
Fighting Tera Type is best for this build to give it STAB on Body Press. Impish Nature is chosen here since the move Body Press uses Torterra's Defense stat to calculate damage.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense to help with survivability. Max out your HP and Def EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Atk. Give it a Shell Bell so that Torterra restores HP when dealing damage.
| Torterra Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
|---|---|
| Turn 1 | Use Reflect to let yourself tank more hits while setting up. |
| Turns 2~4 | Use Iron Defense until your Defense is at +6. |
| Low HP Turns | Use Synthesis to bring your HP back up while setting up. |
| Turns 5+ | Use Body Press until you defeat the raid boss. Terastallize when possible and feel free to set back up any buffs you may have lost. |
Start the battle off by using Reflect to reduce damage while you set up. Once Raid Boss resets all stat changes, use Iron Defense three times to raise Torterra's Defense by 6 stages.
Use Body Press to deal damage and accumulate Tera Orb Charge. Next, once you have enough Tera Orb Charge, terastallize into a Fighting-type and use boosted Body Press to deal damage to Raid Boss' shield and finish the battle.
If Torterra's HP gets low at any point, make sure to use either Synthesis or a Heal Cheer.

You can catch a Turtwig with a Grass Tera Type at the Canyon Biome.
In order to get Turtwig in the Terarium, you need to complete Terry's Boost biodiversity in the Canyon Biome request on the Support Board for 3000 BP
Make sure to bring a Pokemon that has False Swipe and can inflict a status effect to make it easier to catch.

You have a chance to get a Turtwig by hatching the egg that Jacq gives you in the Teal Mask DLC. However, this egg can hatch into any of the three Sinnoh starter Pokemon, not just Turtwig.
If you do get Turtwig, you can evolve this to get Grotle and then Torterra.

If you don't get Turtwig from this egg, or if you don't have the Teal Mask DLC, you can get Torterra by transferring it from a previous Pokemon game. Of the Pokemon games on the Nintendo Switch, Torterra can be found in Pokemon BDSP and Pokemon Legends Arceus.

If the Torterra build you are following requires it to have a different Tera type, you will need to have 50 Tera Shards of the type you need, and bring it to Medali to have your Pokemon's Tera Type changed.

If it has a different nature, you can use an Adamant Mint to change its nature to Adamant.
The easiest way to get this is by buying it from the Chansey Supply shop at Mesagoza for ₽20,000.
How to Change a Pokemon's Nature

If its ability is different from our recommendation, you can use an Ability Capsule to change it.
This item can be bought at Chansey Supply shops for ₽100,000.
Ability Capsule Location and How to Get
If the build you are following requires it to have its Hidden Ability, you can use an Ability Patch to give Torterra its Hidden Ability.
Ability Patch Location and How to Get

EV train Torterra according to the build's EV spread using Vitamins, Mochis, or the traditional way with Power Items and battling Pokemon with the right EV yield.
Vitamins can be bought at any Chansey Supply shop and it will cost you ₽530,000 to fully train a Pokemon. Meanwhile, Mochi can be obtained through the Ogre Oustin' Minigame.
If you have the money for it, you can just use 26 Protein, 26 Iron, and 1 HP Up.
Alternatively, you can use Power Items that you can buy at a Delibird Presents shop for ₽10,000 each. Have your Pokemon hold the respective Power Item while defeating the Pokemon listed below.
| Held Item | Number of Pokemon to Defeat | Defeat Any of These Pokemon |
|---|---|---|
|

After EV training it, head to Montenevera and talk to the man with an Abomasnow near the Pokemon Center. He will hyper train your Pokemon using Bottle Caps.
A Bottle Cap can be bought at the Delibird Presents shops for ₽20,000 after getting 6 Gym Badges. 1 Bottle Cap is needed for each stat that will be maxed out.

Next, level it up to 100 to maximize its stats. The easiest way to do this is by farming Exp candies from Tera Raid Battles.
