Extremely difficult to KO Excellent defenses and access to Eviolite. Great support options in WIll-O-Wisp and Trick Room, as well as recovery in Pain Split. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Frisk | Eviolite |
The Ability chosen for Dusclops for this build is Frisk. This Ability is useful for best-of-one matches like online ranked battles. But for open team sheet tournaments, Pressure may be preferred.
The item chosen for Dusclops for this build is Eviolite. This is Dusclops's best Held Item, which dramatically increases its survivability because it is not a fully-evolved Pokemon.
Night Shade | Will-O-Wisp |
Trick Room | Pain Split |
Because of its poor offensive stats, Night Shade is Dusclops' most reliable means of dealing damage.
Will-O-Wisp can render physical attackers ineffectual. By burning them, their damage output is drastically lowered.
Trick Room is Dusclops' most important move, and is primarily why people will run Dusclops in their teams. Trick Room is a unique means of Speed control, that reverses turn order.
Pain Split is a reliable way to recover HP, making Dusclops even harder to KO.

Dark Tera can protect Dusclops from super-effective Dark-type attacks, and protect it from Prankster Taunt from Pokemon like Tornadus-I and Thundurus-I.
Best Dark Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
A full 252 EVs are put into Dusclops's HP, while a good bulk of the remaining EV's are put into Defense. 156 EVs are spent on Defense, and it is given a Bold Nature so that it can better survive boosted Ivy Cudgel from Ogerpon Hearthflame Mask.
The remaining 100 EVs are put into Special Defense, rounding out Dusclops's bulk, ensuring that it can take multiple boosted Hyper Voices from Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
Curse | A good fit to Dusclops's toolkit because of its massive bulk. Curse can serve as a way to KO tanky Pokemon such as Dondozo after a Commander boost, or Bloodmoon Ursaluna. |

Helping Hand | A great supportive option that boosts its teammate's damage output. |

Dusclops vs Dusknoir Comparison | |
---|---|
Dusclops |
Dusknoir |
✅ More consistent Trick Room setter thanks to bulk and Eviolite. ✅ Bulkier than Dusknoir. ❌ Locked into Eviolite ❌ Worse offensive Stats |
❌ No Eviolite buffs ✅ Can make better use of offensive movepool. ✅ Better offensive capabilities. ✅ Can hold a different item. |
Overall, Dusclops works better as a Trick Room setter, mainly thanks to Eviolite and its naturally high defenses.
Dusknoir can still be a viable support Pokemon because it still has all the support moves that Dusclops has, but can offer more damage in exchange for Eviolite's defensive buffs. Dusknoir can also run moves like Earthquake or Elemental Punches (Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch) but will be easier to KO despite its bulk compared to Dusclops.
Dusclops will often be able to tank hits comfortably. This can allow it to survive and set up Trick Room for its teammates. It can then support its team by spreading burn with Will-O-Wisp, or heal HP with Pain Split.
Burning physical attackers dramatically inhibit their ability to deal damage, thus making Dusclops even more difficult to take out.
Dusclops, while it thrives in a Trick Room Team, does not always need to be slotted into one. Dusclops can synergize with balance teams, offering them valuable Speed Control with Trick Room, especially with fast Pokemon and Tailwind-setters running rampant.
A team with middling to low speed care good to have around Dusclops.
Support / Disruption | Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Dusclops | Landorus (Therian Forme) |
Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |
Heatran | Iron Hands |
Landorus-T with Dusclops immediately gives Dusclops added durability thanks to Landorus's Intimidate. Landorus can U-Turn out into either Heatran if it is anticipating a super-effective Ice-type Attack, or to Iron Hands while Dusclops sets Trick Room.
Dusclops can stay on the field for a long time, reversing turn order with Trick Room, healing itself with Pain Split, burning opponents with Will-O-Wisp, overall being a huge menace that is difficult to KO.
Because Dusclops must hold Eviolite, it will not have access to Mental Herb. Taunting Dusclops can make it useless in battle.
Knock Off can remove Dusclops's valuable Eviolite. Being a Dark-type Move, it can also deal super-effective damage.
