Version 3.0.0 introduces a feature for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) that allows players to customize your Pokemon's moveset before transferring it to a game. Read on to learn more about this feature and how to use it.
The Move Change option is a feature that was added in Version 3.0.0 of Pokmon Scarlet and Violet.
This allows players to customize the Pokemon's moveset based on its currently learned moves, as well as based on their learnset on the game they are being transferred to.
This means players can tweak the moveset of the Pokemon they're transferring to before moving it to Pokemon HOME!
Pokemon HOME Version 3.0.0
Compatibility Patch Update (May 24)
Pokemon that have not been moved to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet before will have their Moves and Abilities reset to what they would normally be at that level in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This means any moves and abilities of a Pokemon transferred to the game will be changed into what is available in its ability and movepool.
2009 Toys R' Us Arceus | Moveset |
---|---|
Arceus | Regular Moveset before Transfer |
・
Judgment
・ Roar of Time ・ Spacial Rend ・ Shadow Force |

New Moveset after Transfer | |
・
Judgment
・ Perish Song ・ Hyper Beam ・ Recover |
Pokemon transferred into newer games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will reset the moves the Pokemon has if it is not in its in-game movepool.
For example, if your transfer over an Arceus from the 2009 Toys R' Us event, this Arceus will forget the moves: Spacial Rend, Roar of Time, and Shadow Force.
Moving it back to Pokemon HOME, however, will make it so that the moves are returned to its movepool. The moves will just be unusable in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Likewise, a pokemon with a new ability given to it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have its ability changed into its new one.
If you choose to transfer a Pokemon back to an older game, it will lose its new ability for its previous one instead.

Pokemon transferred from an older game to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have their Tera Typing determined by their Type 1 regular typing.
This is a great way to obtain some high IV or Shiny Pokemon with the desired Tera Type that are often difficult to get otherwise, such as Steel Tera Gholdengo! Gimmighoul is a Ghost Type, which means evolving it into Gholdengo will always result in a Ghost Tera Gholdengo.
However bringing an already evolved Gholdengo from Pokemon Go will result in a Steel Tera Type due to Gholdengo being a Steel-Ghost Type!
Note that this will not work with all Pokemon, as some Pokemon such as Steel Tera Scizor, and Flying Tera Dragonite will not be possible due to these being their 2nd typings (Bug-Steel, Dragon-Flying, respectively).
Best Pokemon for Tera Raids
The update also adds a feature to Pokemon HOME that stores data for each of your Pokemon's movesets per game.
Once a Pokemon has been in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it's moveset will be stored in Pokemon HOME's memory and reset back to its Ability and moveset it last had in-game when moved back in again.
