Pokémon GO Gigantamax Pikachu & New Costumed Ditto Make Their Debut
Max Battle Day on March 28
Pokémon GO rolls out new content this month, carrying forward the momentum of festivities for its 10th year and the Pokémon franchise's 30th anniversary, which began during Pokémon Day 2026. Gigantamax Pikachu will appear for the first time during Max Battle Day on March 28 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. Meanwhile, costumed Ditto will arrive in the AR mobile game as part of the Pokémon Pokopia Celebration Event.
Players can find Gigantamax Pikachu in six-star Max Battles, with the chance of encountering its Shiny form. The towering Pikachu made its franchise debut in the 2019 mainline games Pokémon Sword and Shield and resembles its "chonkier" original design from Generation 1. Accompanying Pikachu during the event are all the other Gigantamax Pokémon already in Pokémon GO, including Toxtricity, Gengar, and the Kanto starters Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.

Event bonuses include the following:
⚫︎ Max Particles - collection limit increased to 1,600; earn 8x more from Power Spots.
⚫︎ Power Spots - refresh more frequently and host Gigantamax Battles.
⚫︎ Special Trades - maximum of three for the day.
⚫︎ Daily Remote Raid - limit increased to 20 from March 27 at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET to March 28 at 8:00 PM PT / 11:00 PM ET.
On March 28, from 12:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time, players can also earn twice the amount of Max Particles from exploring 1/4 of the Adventuring distance via the Nearby menu and with Adventure Sync.

Furthermore, a $4.99 premium access to Timed Research grants event-exclusive rewards and bonuses, effective from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time on March 28. Tickets are open until 5:00 PM local time on the said date as well. The rewards and bonuses include:
⚫︎ 1 Max Mushroom
⚫︎ 25,000 XP
⚫︎ 6,400 Max Particles
⚫︎ 2x XP from Max Battles
Pokémon Pokopia Celebration Event

Two spin-off Pokémon titles merge, as Pokémon GO brings in Ditto from the life-simulation game Pokémon Pokopia to celebrate the latter's March 5 launch on the Nintendo Switch 2. Ditto is Pokopia's main protagonist, who assumes a human-like form to restore and revitalize a desolate region. The Pokémon Pokopia Celebration Event in Pokémon GO occurs from March 10 at 10:00 AM to March 16 at 8:00 PM local time.
Players can run into Ditto wearing either a hat or a cap, with the chance to encounter its Shiny form or one with a special background centered on Pokopia as a theme. These variants can be obtained by finding Ditto masquerading as different Pokémon in the wild.
Appearing alongside Ditto during the event are wild spawns for Pikachu, Sudowoodo, Zorua, the Kanto first-partner Pokémon Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, and many others. Lapras, Snorlax, and Dragonite will also show up in three-star raids. Much like the new Ditto, these Pokémon have a chance to be Shiny or have a special event background.

The following bonuses can also be earned during the event:
⚫︎ 2x XP for spinning PokéStops.
⚫︎ 10x XP for spinning a PokéStop for the first time.
⚫︎ Increased chance to encounter Shiny Sudowoodo and Shiny Zorua.
Other content includes a variety of rewards from completing tasks and challenges, a Ditto Eye Mask for the player avatar, and Pokopia-themed stickers.
Keeps Up With 30th Anniversary

Last week, Pokémon GO Vice President of Product, Michael Steranka, stated that this year will be "massive" for Pokémon GO fans and the Pokémon community as a whole. 2026 marks 10 years since the AR title's monumental launch and 30 years since the first Pokémon games, Red and Blue, were released.
In line with the milestones mentioned above, Pokémon GO has kept players engaged since February 27 through a succession of back-to-back events. "Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos" transpired from late February until the first week of March. It was followed by the "Pokémon 30th Anniversary: All Out" Tour Event held from March 7 to March 9. The Pokémon Pokopia Celebration Event will take place the day after, and Max Battle Day will come next in late March.
Pokémon GO is currently available for iOS and Android. For more information about the game, check out our article below!
