Level Up Inkay While the Console is Upside Down

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk - Evolving Inkay into Malamar

Inkay evolves into Malamar once it levels up past level 30 while the console you're playing in is flipped upside down. If you are playing while your Switch is docked, you need to play in handheld mode and flip the console so Inkay can evolve.

To ensure the console detects itself as flipped, disconnect any external controllers to the console and only play with the Joy-Cons attached. Make sure to also flip the console before a battle starts (one where you know Inkay will level up past 30) or before you feed Inkay an experience-granting candy.

Inkay Level Up Bug Fixed

A new bug introduced with The Indigo Disk DLC leaves the game unresponsive when levelling up Inkay in certain situations. When Inkay is leveled up while below level 30 using items like Rare Candy or Exp. Candy, players encounter a glitch. After the level-up message is displayed, the game becomes unresponsive to any button inputs, affecting gameplay.

This bug has been fixed with the release of the 3.0.1 update for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which was released on February 1, 2024.
