To the northeast of Paldea is a sheer rockface that cannot be traversed. But is it a potential DLC area? Read on to learn what the Northeast Border is all about, and what can be seen there if and when it's opened.

What Is Past the Northeast Border?
A Sheer Rockface That Cannot Be Traversed
To the northeast of Paldea, near Team Star's Caph Squad Base, is a sheer rockface that cannot be climbed and is too tall to fly over.
If you look at it from the map screen, you will see that the area above the cliffs is outlined, but no locations are shown. There are also no NPCs around to comment on or explain the presence of the rockface.
What Could Be Past the Northeast Border?
Southwest Kalos, as a DLC Area
Based on the shape of the blank area past the Northeast border, we expect it to be the setting of a DLC which may see players go to the Kalos Region from Pokemon X and Y.
This is because Paldea is based on the real-life countries of Spain and Portugal, while Kalos is based on the real-life country of France. Since both Spain and France are next to each other in the real world, the northeast border in Scarlet and Violet may lead to Southwest Kalos.
The potential return of Kalos could also spell the return of game mechanics introduced in Pokemon X and Y, namely Mega Evolution -- a feature that has been absent from the mainline Pokemon games since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
