On November 5, 2022, a new Coin-related Pokemon appeared following the Pokemon GO Community Day event, and is expected to be revealed soon for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV). Learn everything we know from the new Coin Pokemon's appearance in Pokemon GO, and what its type may be.
List of Contents
The new coin Pokemon has been revealed as Gimmighoul, a pure Ghost-type. It has two forms, a Chest Form and a Roaming Form. The Roaming Form will become available in 2023 by linking Pokemon Scarlet or Violet with Pokemon GO.

As of 5 AM PT on November 6, a new tweet from Poke Times, an official Japanese twitter account, implies that something will be revealed at 23:00 JST (6 AM PT).
Previously, the Pokemon official twitter shared a tweet linking to a website showing a chest gradually filling with coins, along with the time of 6:00 AM PT.
It seems likely that this will be the reveal time of the Pokemon. As Pokemon reveals have generally occurred 24 hours after the tease ala Grafaiai and Bellibolt, the time will probably correspond to November 6, the day after the Coin Pokemon first appeared in Pokemon GO.
Check the chart below to find out what time this corresponds to in your time zone.
Region | Start Time |
---|---|
US West Coast | 6 AM |
US East Coast | 9 AM |
Brazil | 11 AM |
United Kingdom | 3 PM |
South Africa | 4 PM |
Philippines | 10 PM |
Australian West Coast | 10 PM |
Japan | 11 PM |
Australian East Coast | 12 AM (Nov. 7) |
New Zealand | 2 AM (Nov. 7) |
The above images are captured from Pokemon GO.
The main thing certain about the Coin Pokemon right now is its appearance: It is grey with two large yellow eyes, two antennae, and a large gold coin on its back.
The Coin Pokemon appears for all players in Pokemon GO after the end of Community Day on November 5, 2022. It cannot be caught, and instead will follow the player and ask for ?????? Coins, a new item. Right now, it doesn't seem that there is a way to give ?????? Coins to the new Pokemon, but more details are still being uncovered.
Players can get ?????? Coins in-game by finding Orange Pokestops and spinning them, which will have a chance of dropping coins. These coins are noted to have originated in the Paldea region, the region from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which effectively confirms that the new Pokemon will appear in the new games.
Eagle-eyed viewers initially spotted the Coin Pokemon lurking behind the settings in one of the camera mode shots from the October 6 Trailer. It's possible that it was included as a mistake, but now seeing its reveal a month later, it seems likely that this was all according to plan, with Game Freak dangling new Pokemon just out of reach to drive the fans wild.

Coin Pokemon Appearance | 5:00 PM local time |
---|---|
Community Day Duration | 2:00pm - 5:00pm local time |
The Coin Pokemon will appear within Pokemon GO at the end of Community Day on November 5, 2022, at 5:00 PM local time. If the Coin Pokemon has not yet appeared in Pokemon GO for you, wait until 5:00 PM in your current time zone, and the Coin Pokemon should appear and start to follow you!
Coins being earned from an Orange Pokestop in Pokemon GO.
Based on its antennae, which are commonly associated with bugs, it seems likely that the new Pokemon will be a Bug type.
Its association with a coin makes a Steel typing seem likely as well, similar to Pokemon like Klefki which were based on real metal objects.
