It is unlikely that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) will adapt the same catching mechanic used in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Read on to find out more about how to catch and battle in the new Gen 9 titles!

Will The Arceus System Make A Comeback?
The Arceus System Will Not Return

Unfortunately, the system for catching Pokemon seen in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will not be making a comeback in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Catching Pokemon Will Follow A Traditional Format
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will have all the features we have grown accustomed to from older titles in the franchise.
These include lowering a wild Pokemon's HP, inducing it with a status, then throwing a Poke Ball at it.
Sneak up on Pokemon to get a battle advantage
There is another way to start a battle too, if you're close enough to a Pokémon, you can aim with ZL and throw your PokéBall to get your lead Pokémon out and start the battle. Targeting will show you the level of the Pokémon and its name, and if you sneak up on the Pokémon by crouching, and catch it unaware, you'll get a small boost at the start of the battle.

Although Pokemon cannot be caught by simply throwing a Poke Ball at them, you will gain an advantage when you hit a Pokemon with a Poke Ball from behind. Although the exact details of the boost are not given, it's likely that the Pokemon will be slightly slower to act.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus offered us a fresh take on catching Pokemon with its unique catching system, but this is a gameplay feature unique to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which will not find its way into Scarlet and Violet.
