Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) is the first Open-World main-series game for the franchise. Read on to learn about the genre information for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and whether the game will be a massive multiplayer online (MMO) journey.
List of Contents
According to a tweet from the official Pokemon twitter account, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are confirmed to be Open World games.
Additionally and as revealed in the June 1 Trailer, you are now free to explore the region not in an order dictated by the story. This gives players full freedom to explore the region at your own pace!
June 1 Second Trailer: Everything We Learned
For the first time in the Pokemon series, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet lets players connect and play with up to three other players to explore the new region!
However, having four players does not make it massive. So while Pokemon Scarlet and Violet does have multiplayer and online capabilities, it is not an MMO game.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet allows for both local and online connectivity as in previous games. The new Union Circle feature lets players battle and trade with each other.
As revealed in the June 1 Trailer, classic Pokemon and trainer battles return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Players once again direct their Pokemon to attack or switch out to another party member, use items from the bag, or run away from the battle.
While classic Pokemon battles make a return, it appears that players will encounter Pokemon in the overworld similar to how they did in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The stealth/action aspect of catching Pokemon like in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is unlikely to return, and Scarlet and Violet is likely to follow in the steps of its predecessor.
It is currently unknown if random encounters will make a return, similar to mainline Pokemon games before Sword and Shield.
