Salamence

By aligning a Pokemon's original Type with its Tera Type and using a move of that same Type, you can deal maximum damage. Therefore, if you are unsure of what Tera Type to go with, that is a great starting point for using Tyranitar and Salamence in story playthroughs or Tera Raids.
Dark Tera Type Tyranitar and Flying Tera Type Salamence can only be obtained in Tera Raids or by changing their Tera Type with Tera Shards, so these particular Types are worth getting during this event.
Tyranitar and Salamence appear with various Tera Types during this event, so bring a Pokemon which can deal super effective damage to the Tera Type you're up against. Just remember that their movesets do not change regardless of the Tera Type, so be sure your Pokemon can handle the moveset listed above in the Movesets section.
Tyranitar uses only Physical moves, so Pokemon with high Defense which can handle its powerful attacks are a necessity. It has strong coverage in a variety of types, so most Pokemon will take at least neutral damage from some of its attacks.
Pokemon | Moveset / Strengths |
---|---|
Annihilape |
・ Rage Fist ・ Close Combat ・ Bulk Up ・ Drain Punch ・Deals super-effective damage against Ghost Tera (high rate of appearing) ・No weaknesses to Tyranitar's moveset. ・High damage output. ・High HP and access to Drain Punch make it sturdy. ▶︎ Best Annihilape Build for Tera Raids |
Azumarill |
・ Belly Drum ・ Play Rough ・ Liquidation ・ Helping Hand ・No weaknesses to Tyranitar's moveset. ・High damage output. ▶︎ Best Azumarill Build for Tera Raids |
Dachsbun |
・ Misty Terrain ・ Charm ・ Helping Hand ・ Play Rough ・No weaknesses to Tyranitar's moveset. ・High physical Defense. ・Can use Charm and Misty Terrain to reduce Tyranitar's damage output. ▶︎ Best Dachsbun Build for Tera Raids |
Salamence uses a mix of both Physical and Special moves, so Pokemon going up against it will need to be able to handle both. Like Tyranitar, it has coverage in a variety of types.
Pokemon | Moveset / Strengths |
---|---|
Iron Hands |
・ Close Combat ・ Belly Drum ・ Drain Punch ・ Ice Punch ・Deals super-effective damage against Steel Tera (high rate of appearing) ・No weaknesses to Salamence's 5-star moveset. ▶︎ Best Iron Hands Build for Tera Raids |
Gardevoir |
・ Reflect ・ Light Screen ・ Life Dew ・ Helping Hand ・Can set up Reflect and Light Screen to protect allies from both Physical and Special attacks. ・No weaknesses to Salamence's moveset. ▶︎ Best Gardevoir Build for Tera Raids |
Umbreon |
・ Screech ・ Helping Hand ・ Yawn ・ Skill Swap ・High Sp. Def and access to Screech allow it to protect against Physical and Special attacks. ・No weaknesses to Salamence's moveset. ▶︎ Best Umbreon Build for Tera Raids |
Pokemon | Hidden Ability |
---|---|
Tyranitar |
Unnerve Prevents the opponent from using its Held Berry. |
Salamence |
Moxie The user's Attack is increased by one stage whenever it knocks out another Pokemon. |
Tera Raids that are 3 Stars plus sometimes feature Pokemon with their Hidden Ability. If you are facing Salamence and its Intimidate Ability does not activate at the beginning of the battle you will know it instead has its Hidden Ability, Moxie. With Tyranitar on the other hand, if a message appears stating that the Pokemon are too nervous to eat their berries, you will know it has its Hidden Ability, Unnerve.
Tyranitar and Salamence can both be shiny, however it is only regular odds, which are quite low. If you would like to get yourself a shiny Salamence or Tyranitar it is better to instead hunt their basic forms, Larvitar and Bagon, by eating sandwiches with Sparkling Power and using the Outbreak Shiny Hunting method.
