Fuecoco does not have an advantage over the ghost type gym. Ghost is super effective against ghost, and so it is neutral overall. Skeledirge will deal and take more damage, and the advantage, if any, rests on the faster pokemon. This could be counteracted though if you terastallize Fuecoco into a fire type. I think all starter Fuecoco should retain their fire terra type.

gen 1 and gen 9. Meowscarada gets protean as it's HA. . . plus a lot of competitive support moves too. Venusaur was the best option in gen 1 meta, although none of the starters in gen 1 see competitive play at a serious level.
