Can Be Found Disguised as Other Pokemon

Wild Ditto can be found disguised as other Pokemon on the cliffs above Cascarrafa in West Province Area 3.

Use ZL to lock on to a wild Pokemon, its name will display Ditto or three question marks "???" if the Pokemon is not yet registered in the Pokedex.

Ditto Catching Tips

Aim and Lock on Pokemon to Find Ditto

Unregistered on Pokedex Registered on Pokedex
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Unregistered PokedexName displays as "???" Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Registered Pokedex DittoName displays as Ditto

Dittos are fairly common but may be tricky to find as they disguise themselves as other Pokemon. One way to identify a Ditto in the wild is to aim and lock-on it using the ZL button.

This allows you to see the name of the Pokemon and their level. This method does not work if you do not have Ditto or the transformed Pokemon registered in your Pokedex. Instead, it will display three question marks "???".

Appears on the Minimap

Be sure to check the minimap on the bottom-right corner of your screen as it sometimes shows a Ditto icon in the surrounding area. This means a Ditto may be pretending to be another Pokemon nearby.

Ditto Behaves Differently as Disguised Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Does Not React with a Question Mark or Exclamation Mark

Although disguided, a Ditto will not behave the same way other Pokemon usually do. For example, the Ditto will not be agressive towards you when it is disguised as a usually aggressive Pokemon.

It will not charge towards you when disguised as a Tauros. As a Voltorb, they will not self-destruct when you approach them, unlike other Voltorbs.

Usually Solitary or Leading a Pack of Unrelated Pokemon

A Ditto is mostly found wandering its habitat by itself while still disguised. If they are found leading a group of first evolution Pokemon, it is usually with Pokemon not related to the one it is disguised as.

Ditto Will Not React with a Question Mark or Exclamation Point

Other Pokemon react with a question mark "?" or an exclamation mark "!" above their heads if you approach them. Meanwhile, a Ditto will not react the same way.

Strategies for DItto Tera Raids

Ditto may also appear in Tera Raids, where it can be found with high IVs.

Tera Raid Dittos have a tendency to transform into whatever the host of the raid has chosen as their lead Pokemon, so you can exploit this by using a weak Pokemon like Magikarp or another Ditto to avoid the raid Ditto from transforming into a strong Pokemon.

Took a while because I kept getting attacked or finding Zorua, but I eventually found a ditto disguised as a Tropius!

It can be confirmed that Eevee, Jigglypuff, Oinkologne and Tandemaus can be Ditto. I have seen some streamers getting Ditto from these mons.
