This is a guide to the Dragon Conversion Skill in Monster Hunter Rise (MH Rise): Sunbreak. Learn what the Dragon Conversion Skill does at each level, which Armor and Decorations have this skill, and our builds that use Dragon Conversion.
Skill Effect | |
---|---|
When using the Red Swap Scroll, all elemental resistance is set to 0 and converted into elemental attack. The Blue Swap Scroll raises elemental resistance. | |
Level | Effect by Level |
1 | Activate effect. All elemental resistances +3. |
2 | All elemental resistances +5. When using the Blue Swap Scroll, resistance buildup increases when continuously attacking. |
3 | All elemental resistances +10. When using the Red Swap Scroll, the conversion rate for elemental attacks increases. |
YES. Dragon Conversion can be obtained as an extra skill on your armor when you try rolling for skills via Qurious Armor Crafting.

Converting Resistances to Elemental Attack | ||

→
→ →
① Red Scroll → ② Blue Scroll → ③ Lvl. 2 Skill Resistance Buildup Effect → ④ Red Scroll |
||
① Every hunt always starts with a Red Swap Scroll. All elemental resistances are set to 0 and converted to Elemental Attack. Any resistance added while this scroll is active is also converted! | ||
② Switch to a Blue Swap Scroll to raise Elemental Resistance. | ||
③ Perform consecutive attacks to achieve the skill's Lvl. 2-3 elemental resistance buildup. | ||
④ Switch to a Red Swap Scroll. Total elemental resistance present right before the switch is converted. This includes the mentioned buildup. | ||
If the attack/buildup wears off, start again at ① with your red scroll active. |
For skills like Furious that apply resistance immediately on the red scroll, using the blue swap scroll is optional (only needed if you need to fill in additional boosts).
The key to using this skill effectively is is to take advantage of your elemental resistances to increase your elemental attack. This will not boost abnormal status effects like poison.
Since the conversion covers total elemental resistance, elemental resistance buffs that are present right before you switch to your Red Scroll are also factored in the elemental attack computation.
Elemental Damage and Resistances Guide
Conversion Rate (% of Positive Resistance) | ||
---|---|---|
Skill Level | Melee | Ranged (Bow, Bowguns) |
Level 1 | 15% | 4% |
Level 2 | 15% | 4% |
Level 3 | 25% | 8% |
Having the Red Swap Scroll active keeps your elemental resistance at 0 while giving you a significant elemental attack buff.
Elemental attack gained is converted from how much resistance you have. The higher your elemental resistance, the more elemental attack you gain.
Above stats in the image were tested with Crimson Valstrax - Epoch Helm, Mail, and Coil, and Kamura Legacy Braces and Leggings. Weapon used is the Demonlord Blade. No decorations were used.
Given the conversion rate, we recommend making use of the skill's level 2 effect of elemental resistance buildup. You can also use decorations and skills that increase elemental resistances to get more out of your elemental attack.
Resistance skills and skills like Furious can be paired with Dragon Conversion to increase overall damage output.
Elemental resistance is raised when the Blue Scroll is active.
At Dragon Conversion Level 2 and above, continuous attacks with the Blue Swap Scroll will progressively increase elemental resistance buildup.
You will know that you have the resistance buff when an aura flashes around your hunter after a weapon hit, paired with the multi-colored shield buff icon at the top-left.
Weapon | Consecutive Number of Hits |
---|---|
Great Sword | 10 |
Long Sword | 20 |

Lance | 20 |
Gunlance | 30 |

Heavy Bowgun | 80 |
Bow | 100 |
Attacking a number of times with a weapon will proc the elemental resistance boost of the blue scroll. This boost gives a flat +15 to all elemental resistances with Dragon Conversion level 2 and above.
The counter for the number of hits for the boost is reset whenever the scroll is switched out from blue or no follow-up attacks have been made for some time. This means your attacks need to be consecutive to effectively activate the boost.
Attacks on a red scroll are not counted.
Take note that each elemental resistance is capped at 50.
Upon further testing, it has been found that kinsect hits do not count towards the elemental resistance buildup.
Meanwhile, phial-based and shelling attacks are counted. Use this to your advantage when using the blue scroll with Dragon Conversion!
