More news about the Sunbreak DLC for Monster Hunter Rise (MH Rise) was revealed at the digital event on May 10, 2022! Read on to learn when the event went live and see highlights like the new monsters and switch skill swap.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Release Date and New Monsters
The blade wyvern from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is in for a triumphant return in MH Rise! Get ready for the new bleeding status that will definitely change the way you hunt!
An icy new Somnacanth subspecies has appeared in Sunbreak! Unlike the normal Somnacanth, the Aurora Somnacanth blasts cold air to freeze its surroundings. It will even use the ice to slide around the battlefield!
Aurora Somnacanth: Basic Information
The Water Leviathan Almudron has been revealed to have a new subspecies in Sunbreak, the Magma Almudron. This monster is seen withstanding the intensity of lava and is shown to be living in the Lava Caverns, adopting a red glow when in a special heated state.
Magma Almudron: Basic Information
These beetles cluster together in a star-shaped formation. When disturbed, they change color and release explosive dust. The resulting detonation damages nearby creatures.
Stardust Bug: Basic Information
Thornytoads devour anything with their elastic tongues. When attacked, these amphibians cling to monsters bigger than themselves and then release gastric acid that can cause them to flinch.
In a new type of quest, Follower Collab Quests allow you to go on hunts with NPCs such as Fiorayne, Jae, Luchika, Admiral Galleus, and Master Arlow. Characters from Kamura Village like Hinoa and Minoto will also be available as Followers. You will also earn special rewards from these quests!
Followers can help you out during hunts by providing healing, placing traps, and riding monsters.
Intro Videos for all fourteen (14) weapon types will be dropped from May 16. Stay tuned as this can reveal new Switch Skills we can use for Sunbreak!

Switch Skills Guide: New Switch Skills
In a preview, it is confirmed that we will be getting two new additional Switch Skills slots (a total of 5 if we could MH Rise's Switch Skill Slots) for each weapon. Stay tuned for more updates!
A new mechanic called Switch Skill Swap will also be introduced in MHRise Sunbreak!
This allows hunters to switch between two different Switch Skill loadouts on the fly while hunting by pressing X + A (Nintendo Switch). This opens up new creative playstyles that will help you take on Master Rank in Sunbreak!
It is confirmed that you switch between two Switch Skill loadouts that you prepare before every hunt.
In addition to swapping Switch Skills, hunters can also evade immediately after swapping! This allows them to reposition before using the swapped Switch Skill!
In the base game, when you attacked a large monster you mounted it automatically. Unlike the base game, Sunbreak now allows you to attack a large monster when it is in a mountable state!
The Sunbreak expansion will also offer a way to change the original controls to new controls of monster mounting. Mainly to ease in the monster mounting tweaks.
The monsters that can be hunted in the Master Rank will move differently compared to Low/High Rank monsters.
Some monsters will even do a new combo of moves, like the Aknosom going for a backstep and somersault combo.
The video also showed the Tigrex doing a bite into a spin attack combo, unique to the Master Rank.
If you were a fan of the first Monster Hunter Rise-themed pro controller, then you'll love the new Sunbreak edition pro controller! We will update you with details on where to find it as soon as stores make it available.
Sunbreak will have a collab with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin! If you have a save data of MHS2, then you can unlock the Navirou Costume, which is a layered armor set for your Palico!
