Embolden provides levels of Guard and Evade Window whenever a monster targets you. In addition, your defense will be boosted, and you'll require fewer hits to make the monster enraged. All these effects are immediately lost once the monster sets its eyes on another hunter, so this skill is a better fit for solo players or users of the Diversion skill.
When targeted by a monster, you'll receive a notification that Embolden has been activated. You can also tell that the skill is active by checking for the orange glow around your hunter's left arm or checking for the Evade Window icon in your status.

Guard Lv 5 + Embolden Lv 3 ("Guard Lv 10") |
Embolden also boosts Guard and Evade Window levels if these skills are equipped. This is especially useful for weapons with weaker shields as Guard levels can go beyond Lv 5, reducing knockback even further. This allows the Sword and Shield's Guard Slash to chain into the Perfect Rush thanks to the lower guard reaction. SnS hunters should aim to get at least 'Lv.8 Guard' combined to counter most monster attacks.
However, any combination of Embolden and Evade Window is capped at Lv 5 due to the limit on iframes.

Hi, anon. To activate Embolden in the training area, open Training Options from the menu and set Track Player to Yes. Hope this helps!
