Known as the "Ice Dragons that Freezes All" or the "Iceborne Wyvern," few records of Velkhana exist. As such, they remain shrouded in mystery. Their icy breath is so cold that it can form massive ice walls and spires out of nowhere, and it is even powerful enough to freeze other monsters. Some reports indicate that Velkhana will freeze their rivals in order to establish their domain. |
Hunters will be able to slay Velkhana via the M6★ Quest Clashing Swords Upon the Rime. The quest will unlock as soon as the Hunter reaches MR10.

Velkhana is more deadly when covered in its Ice Armor, as it unleashes a flurry of deadly icicle attacks that can deal huge amounts of damage. Focus on breaking these ice armor to topple Velkhana!
As mentioned above, breaking multiple Velkhana parts covered in Ice Armor will topple Velkhana, opening it up for attacks from Hunters. Use this opportunity to deal huge damage!
Velkhana's ice attack are mostly forward aiming so the safest spot to stay is underneath it. Just make sure to telegraph its tail attacks that it usually uses against foes staying underneath it.
Looking at its elemental weakness chart, Velkhana is extremely weak to Fire. Try bringing Elemental weapons against this Elder Dragon and aim for its Torso, Foreleg, and Hind Leg!
Since Velkhana dishes out tons of ice-based attack, try wearing armor with Ice Resistance skills. This increases your survivability if you're having trouble.
Velkhana's attacks deal Iceblight, an annoying ailment that decreases Wirebug regeneration. This can surely throw off your combos and decrease your overall DPS, so take a Nulberry to cure your Hunter.
Nulberry How to Get and Effects
Velkhana returns to Sunbreak to show off its moves from Iceborne. Like in its previous appearance, Velkhana creates a lot of icy pillars that can do serious damage and will likely inflict Iceblight. It even uses moves from its stronger Arch-Tempered form, so hunters should be prepared when facing it.
