Great Baggi Hunting Tips

MH Rise - Great Baggi First Appearance

It commands many lesser Baggi to form a wave of all-out offense; a tactful hunter will pick off the herd one by one and avoid being surrounded. The Great Baggi spits out a sedative venom that will knock you out if you're struck by it, but having Energy Drinks on hand helps offset that threat.

How to Beat Great Baggi

Attack After Avoiding Sleep Attacks

MH Rise - Attack After Avoiding Sleep Attacks

The Great Baggi will spit sleep fluid at you multiple times, so make sure to dodge all of them so that you don't fall asleep, then attack when the Great Baggi is vulnerable!

Move Quickly or Block Often

MH Rise - Great Baggi Move Quickly

The Great Baggi is a fast opponent, so make sure you're ready for a constant flurry of attacks. When it attacks, dodge around or block often to make sure you don't fall victim to its quick movements!

Bubbling Mouth Followed by Sleep Spit

MH Rise - Great Baggi Bubbling Mouth Followed by Sleep Spit

When the Great Baggi's mouth starts foaming, it's preparing its sleep spit. When that happens, you better dodge from the landing spot or stay to the sides since the Sleep Spit is launched in a straight trajectory. Staying close to the Great Baggi also helps, as once the Sleep Spit animation starts, it cannot change direction.

Bring Energy Drinks

MH Rise - Great Baggi Energy Drink

Energy Drinks can combat the drowsiness caused by Great Baggi’s sleep spit. Use one while you're in the middle of the groggy animation to wake yourself up.

Deal with the Regular Baggi

Similar to the other bird wyverns like Great Wroggi and Great Izuchi, the Great Baggi is oftentimes flanked by regular Baggi. Regular Baggi can also spit out sleep fluid, causing drowsiness and leaving hunters wide open to huge attacks.

Great Baggi Master Rank Attack Patterns

Performs Side Slams and Backsteps More Often

MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Backsteps More Often

Great Baggi does not get any new attacks in Master Rank. However, it will use its more damaging Side Slam more frequently. It will also fire off more Backstep Sleep Spit attacks thanks to its increased speed.

Great Baggi General Attack Patterns

Great Baggi uses the following attacks in Low and High Rank quests.

Name Description
Sleep Spit Ranged attack of the Great Baggi that makes its victims succumb to drowsiness.
Spinning Tail Attack Due to its small arms, the Great Baggi relies on its tail to reach enemies behind it.
Side Slam A reckless body slam, similar to a cornered animal.
Bite Attacks Great Baggi bites at its targets to flinch or trip them.
Leaping Attack Great Baggi jumps forward as an attack.
Summon Baggi A roar the Great Baggi uses to call upon more Baggi to assist it.

Sleep Spit

Great Baggi and the smaller Baggi will spit out tranquilizing fluids that will put you to sleep. Prepare Energy Drinks, and keep your eyes open!

Sleep Spit Variations
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Sleep Spit
Sleep Spit: Great Baggi fires some sleep fluid to tranquilize its target. If it successfully makes a hunter drowsy, it will immediately target them and do either a side slam or a head sweep to deal heavy damage.

Great Baggi only fires straight after its mouth starts foaming, so evade sideward when you see it preparing the attack.
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Backstep Sleep Spit
Backstep Sleep Spit: This variation of the attack has it leaping backward while firing its sleep fluid. Great Baggi pulls this off faster than the regular attack. It also puts some distance between itself and the hunters, leaving it less open to attacks.

As with its regular sleeping spit, it will go straight for any sleepy hunters and perform a strong attack.

Spinning Tail Attack

Spinning Tail Attack Information
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Spinning Tail Attack
Spinning Tail Attack: Great Baggi relies on its tail to attack hunters by whipping it around while spinning. It will usually do this twice in a row and sometimes continue with a quick bite attack.

Side Slam

Side Slam Attack Information
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Side Slam
Side Slam: The Great Baggi will turn to its side and charge sideways towards its foes, much like a shoulder tackle or hip check.

Bite Attacks

Bite Attack Information
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Bite Attacks
Bite Attacks: Great Baggi can quickly bite targets right in front of it to trip or flinch them. It can perform up to two bites in a row, so keep this move in mind when you're going for the head.

Leaping Attack

Leaping Attack Information
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Leaping Attack
Leaping Attack: Great Baggi uses its nimbleness to jump toward hunters. It will usually use this to close the distance with its target and then continue attacking with its close-range moves.

Summon Baggi

Summon Baggi Move Information
MH Rise Sunbreak - Great Baggi Summon Baggi
Summon Baggi: Great Baggi lets out a roar to call Baggi to help it fight the hunter. Like many monsters, its roar is also a signal that it's enraged.
