Massive Attack Buffs For Massive Defensive Penalties

On paper, Mail of Hellfire looks like an incredible skill that can improve your damage output. In practice, the penalties are something you really have to look out for, especially in Master Rank. While you'll still be able to take hits, the additional damage you take might cause you to cart more often against stronger moves.

Skill Opportunity Cost

While mitigating the Defense penalty isn't too hard, it does require taking up valuable skill slots. The Resistances are more problematic, especially at Lv 3, since even skills won't help you. To add to this problem, if you want to use Lv 3 Mail of Hellfire, you'll have less flexibility to fit in other skills since the Torso, Arms, and Waist must all be equipped. If you're after a raw build, even Lv 1 should be enough of a boost without giving up too much. The Waist part is worth considering since it has plenty of slots and comes with Coalescence.

Comparison With Dereliction

▲Raw Attack Comparison: Both sets only have the necessary armor to activate the required skill levels.

Mail of Hellfire can be compared to another high-risk, high-reward skill like Dereliction. Dereliction tends to perform better as its pieces also have Resentment, which is nearly always active. To highlight this, just Lv 1 Dereliction from the Archfiend Legs provides +25 Attack with 3 Qurio and an additional 5 Attack with Resentment. You'll need Lv 3 Mail of Hellfire to exceed that, which means using up three armor pieces.

▲Element Comparison: Both sets only have the necessary armor to activate the required skill levels.

Element doesn't get any better as Dereliction provides a flat boost, while Mail of Hellfire's Element boost is percentage based, meaning you'll only see more benefit with weapons with very high Elemental Attack.

It's not all downhill for Mail of Hellfire though. The comparison above assumes 3 Qurio, which takes more than 2 minutes to reach, whereas Mail of Hellfire is ready from the get-go. If you tend to use Switch Skill Swap a lot, this doesn't lose effectiveness, unlike Dereliction. If you're also not a fan of constantly losing health, then Mail of Hellfire is a usable alternative.

You can get ride of the elemental weakness all together in a valstrex epoch set with dragon conversion and dragon heart witch I like to rune in the set anyway as for the physical defense defense lv 7 will take care of that.
