Best Equipment For Sunbreak (Melee)

Weapon choice is fairly straightfoward for the melee build as we'll be focusing on maximizing elemental damage. These should go well with the Dual-Bladed Chain which received a buff to elemental attack scaling.

Dual-Bladed Chain	Version 13 buffs the damage of the Dual-Bladed Chain, notably elemental damage, making it our first pick for the build. You'll ideally want your Palamutes to abuse their Windmill-like move while it's active by using moves like the Hammer's Courage moves or the Gunlance's Hail Cutter.
Blitz Scroll	The Blitz Scroll raises your Palamute's attack speed while active. It's a great DPS boost while the Dual-Bladed Chain is also being used.
Guarding Parasol	The Guarding Parasol also received buffs in Version 13, but not to the degree of the Dual-Bladed Chain. Use this gear if you'd rather have defensive Palamutes or extra stuns, but don't expect similar damage.

As your Palamutes must stick close to monsters to maximize melee damage, we can improve their survivability with Artful Dodger and Counter. Melee-Centric is also required, so the Dual-Bladed Chain is used to its fullest. The other skills were picked to boost damage.

Make sure to set your Palamute behavior to Basic since this lets them get close to monsters.

Large Shuriken	The Large Shuriken should be your first choice for ranged attack Palamutes as this hasn't been nerfed as hard for Status effect scaling. It's also a viable option while the Silkbinder is on cooldown.
Throwarm Scroll	The Throwarm Scroll increases your Palamutes' ranged damage output. Naturally, this scroll should be considered if you're running a ranged build to improve its effectiveness.
Palamute Silkbinder	Since Version 13, the Palamute Silkbinder has been cut back significantly especially when inflicting status, making it less of a priority. However, it still deals mounting damage, making it easier to initiate Wyvern Riding for extra damage and knockdowns.

As most of our recommendations revolve around ranged attacks, it should come as no surprise that skills like Ranged Attack Up and Ranged-Centric are must-haves. Status Attack Up is also highly recommended for the status weapons. Rounding out the remaining memory slots, these can be filled with either Attack Up (L) or Artful Dodger, depending on your preference for damage or survivability. The raw build can also add Attack Up (S) with Critical Up (L).

To maximize the damage potential of your Palamutes, be sure to set their Behavior to Follow. Also, note that Ranged-Centric and all the other skills can be taught to your Palamutes using the new Buddy Skill Lesson feature at the Buddy Dojo.

The Canyne Mizuha have good ice and water resistances compared to the Kushala set. Although the Kushala set offers better ice resistance, the Canyne Mizuha has neutral thunder resistance and much more resistant to dragon elemental attacks.

The Canyne Teostra set offer a better fire and thunder resistance, it's one of the Palamute sets that has a 4 point fire resistance for each piece, one of the highest in the game. The Canyne Rakna set offers the same fire resistance but only has 115 defense for each piece.

Canyne Valstrax Set

The Canyne Valstrax set may be negative in most elemental resistances but it offers the highest defense for your Palamute as of recent update. It also provides great dragon elemental resistance making it an overall well-rounded armor set for your Palamute.

Depending on your weapon of choice any of these skills will benefit you in hunts, but make sure to equip the Element Attack Up and Attack Up (L) when using any of the recommended weapons mentioned above. For the C Mizuha Wand you might want to equip Ranged Attack Up and the Status Attack Up for better effectiveness.

Best Endgame Equipment (Pre-Update 2.0)

Using the same logic as the previous build, this build switches out Negate Stun for Status Attack Up. This will be most useful when equipping the Barking Bell as the idea is for the Sleep to trigger as often as possible for more openings against the monster.

Diversion Scroll	The scroll will allow the Palamute to divert attention from you. It will be better than the Heal Blade Scroll for this ranged build as a ranged Palamute might be better doing the Pincer formation rather than sticking to you.

Here, the skills focus is on attack, as Palamutes are the offense-focused Buddy. Knockout King and Attack Up (S) will make a Palamute's attacks better, dish out more damage, and provides a chance to stun monsters, which in turn grants you openings. Negate Stun is present so that the Palamute can attack as often as possible, allowing Knockout King to get more chances to trigger.

These are the best three skills that you can get with a Level 5 Palamute. These skills aren't that important and it's better to get a Palamute that will meet your skill builds for later on.
