Sunbreak introduces Risen Chameleos, Risen Kushala Daora, Risen Teostra, Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax, and Risen Shagaru Magala as Risen Elder Dragons that can be slain.
Pitfall and Shock Traps do not affect Elder Dragons. This is important especially for hunters using Palicoes with Trap Skills as it may be necessary to swap to a different Palico specifically for Elder Dragons.
Depending on the Elder Dragon, status ailments have virtually no effect against them with some being more susceptible. Before any hunt, try checking your Hunter's Notes for details about the Elder Dragon to help you prepare!

In regards to the Magalas, they can't be part of the cause of the Rampages. It has already been stated that they have been caused by Narwa and Ibushi, and if the idea is the Magalas are linked to the Rampages via the Apex monsters, it's stated they are "crowned" as Apex because they are stronger than the normal versions. In order for the Magalas to be linked there'd not only have to be the frenzy itself present, but also the Apexes would have to exhale the frenzy themselves, which they don't.
