As Xenosociology is a higher-tier Master skill, it is unlocked by spending a total of 12 skill points in the Social skill tree before it can be learned.
There are no backgrounds that start with the Xenosociology skill.

2 | Successfully use Pacify on 15 different aliens. | You can force a target alien creature up to 10 levels higher than you to flee for a limited time. |
3 | Successfully use Flee on 15 different aliens. | You can force a target alien creature up to 10 levels higher than you to attack their allies for a limited time. |
4 | Successfully use Frenzy on 15 different aliens. | You can force a target creature up to 10 levels higher than you to obey commands for a limited time. |
To use the abilities of Xenosociology, you need to bring up the scanner and point it to an alien creature to control it with Xeno-social. You can use the commands on different fauna of the same species to count toward the challenges. However, failing prevents you from using it again on the creature, meaning you'll need to look for other fauna to control.
