The best Shotgun in Starfield is the Boom Boom, as it has the highest damage output out of all Shotguns thanks to its high rate of fire and unique effect which randomly makes your shots explosive.
① Damage
Damage is king when it trying to determine the best weapon you want to use in Starfield. No matter what playstyle you're running, a weapon that can deplete your enemy's health faster is the most efficient weapon to use. |
② Magazine Capacity
Magazine Capacity is an important aspect of the Shotgun. Having more bullets to fire could mean everything during combat, as getting caught while reloading is fatal. |
③ Accuracy
Accuracy defines the Shotgun's range, which means that Shotguns that can deal significant damage from afar are desirable as their spread from close to medium range will be smaller, dealing more damage. |

Big Bang is the only Particle Beam Shotgun in the game. Particle Beam Weapons are flexible since they can deal both physical and energy damage, making them suitable against different kinds of enemies. It is also one of the most accurate shotguns in Starfield. As of now, there is no surefire way of obtaining the Big Bang, and can be looted randomly from crates and enemies!

Breach is a shotgun that deals physical damage. This shotgun has a really high base damage so it can already remove a huge chunk of the enemy's health from the get-go. Breach is also highly moddable due to it having 8 mod slots. Currently, there is no guaranteed way to obtain the Breach shotgun in-game. You may find it inside containers or can be looted from defeated enemies.

Experiment A-7 is essentially a rare variant of the Breach shotgun. Its stats are almost identical to Breach but the Experiment A-7 shotgun has a rare effect called Exterminator. The effect allows Experiment A-7 to deal +30% damage against aliens. To obtain Experiment A-7, you need to persuade Ethan during the Entangled main quest!
