The Enlightened

The Enlightened are a group of science-based devotees. While their trait bonus only features discounts, it’s likely that following this religion also brings boons for Science and Chem projects.

Associated Trait: Raised Enlightened

You lose access to the Sanctum Universum store if you choose the Raised Enlightened trait, and vice versa. On the other hand, you'll gain a significant discount when shopping at the Enlightened store.

House Va'ruun

The Great Serpent religion is often associated with the violent House of Va’Runn group who are described as religious fanatics, and who are encountered as an enemy group within the game. However, it is also seen that hostiles will leave you alone if they follow the Great Serpent as well.

Associated Trait: Serpent's Embrace

Having the Serpent's Embrace Trait compels you to spread the word of the serpent across the universe by granting boons to your health and endurance every time you grav jump. However, if you don't grav jump regularly enough, the snake will bite back and you'll suffer a stat decrease.

Sanctum Universum

Sanctum Universum is one of the most prominent religions in Starfield. As believers of mysticism, it appears that followers of this religion are at odds with the Enlightened.

The Sanctum Universum is only a couple decades old in our timeline, but has gained a lot of prominence.
They believe that God is out there, somewhere in the universe, and that humanity’s ability to travel the stars brings us closer to God.

Associated Trait: Raised Universal

You lose access to the Enlightened store if you choose the Raised Universal trait, and vice versa. On the other hand, you'll gain a significant discount when shopping at the Sanctum Universum store.

Other Religions Also Exist

In addition to the three space-age religions which are explored in more depth, real-life religions also exist in the world of Starfield. It's not currently confirmed to what degree these will appear in the story, but they don't seem to be significant to the main plot.

Can You Join Religions?

Joining One Religion at a Time is Possible

The 3 religions can be joined by choosing them as a trait during character creation. Note that you cannot choose more than 1 religion as your trait, so it is not possible to join multiple religions at once.

Converting to New Religions Is Possible

Since religions are joined via Traits, which can be removed later-on, this means that you can also choose to leave one and join another religion mid-game.
