This is a guide on the best build for the Long Hauler Background in Starfield. Find out the best Long Hauler build, the best traits for Long Hauler, its starting skills, and how to play as a Long Hauler!
List of Contents
Long Haulers have experience transporting things to faraway planets, so ship-related skills under Tech Skills are ideal. Piloting allows you to fly more types of spacecraft, while Starship Design and Starship Engineering should improve the ship overall. Astrodynamics can also be learned to improve the grav drive to let you explore further.
Since you're bound to be in your ship often, you'll want to invest skill points in Targeting Control Systems and Ballistic Weapon Systems to defend it. It's also best to add in Engine Systems and Shield Systems for extra speed and protection when crossing dangerous locations. On top of those, Deception is a great skill to lessen enemy contraband scan of your cargo.
Even though your ship is your priority, it's also good to have quality-of-life skills for yourself. Boost Pack Training and Weight Lifting are great skills to improve mobility and the number of items you can carry, respectively.
Transporting the goods safely is one thing; selling them is another, which is why Commerce is a great skill to get more for what you're selling. Payloads can let you carry more cargo, whether you're hauling legal goods or contraband.
Weapon | Type | Damage | Ammo Type |
---|---|---|---|
Magshear | Rifle | Phys | .50 MI |
The Prime | Pistol | Phys | 7.5mm |
Long Haulers will want to pack light when on foot to bring back as much as they can to the ship. Weapons like a Magshear rifle, and The Prime pistol should be efficient choices that fit any type of encounter in any terrain.
Best Weapons: Weapon Tier List
Just like weapons, Long Haulers will want armor that isn't heavy and offers decent reduction against all types of damage.
Freestar Collective Settler |
You gain access to special Freestar Collective dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. But, crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased. (Can't be combined with any other faction allegiance trait.) |
---|---|
Serpent's Embrace |
You grew up worshiping the Great Serpent. Grav jumping provides a temporary boost to health and oxygen, but health and oxygen are lowered if you don't continue jumping regularly - like an addiction. (Can't be combined with any other religion trait.) |
Spaced |
Your body has become acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when in space. but decreased when on the surface. (Can't be combined with Terra Firma.) |
If you're spending a lot of time on your ship, traits that benefit this playstyle, such as Spaced and Serpent's Embrace, should be considered for their health and oxygen boosts. Long Haulers can also pick a faction allegiance trait like Freestar Collective Settler for better mission rewards and additional dialogue options.
Starting Skills | Description |
---|---|
Piloting |
As more people journey into space, the number of those certified to effectively pilot various types of spacecraft has increased dramatically. |
Weight Lifting |
Weight training can significantly increase one's ability to carry weapons and equipment, both in space and on the ground. |
Ballistic Weapon Systems |
While there have been significant advancements in ship-borne weaponry, sometimes the simplest tool is the most effective. |
Long Hauler Flavor Text |
---|
Let those other hothead pilots obsess over laser weapons and manoeuvrability. You're a space trucker, pure and simple. Pack the cargo, get it there fast, get paid, repeat. Life is simple and good. |
