Speak to Laylah Pulaski, who is located in the mining section of Cydonia in Mars.
She will tell you about the fabled Heart of Mars, a rare ore located in the Martian wastes. Tell her that you'll find the ore and she'll give you the coordinates.
Once Laylah gives you the coordinates, a new location will appear in the Mars planetary map. You can simply fast travel to the location to get there faster.
Enter the Cave and follow the path until you reach a clearing where the Heart of Mars is located, and then use your Cutter to extract it.
There is currently a bug where the rock pile to extract the Heart of Mars spawns out of bounds, making the sidequest impossible to complete. There is no fix for this bug at the moment, but you can work around it using the NoClip Console Command if you're on PC.
Head back to Cydonia and return to Laylah. She is surprised that you actually found the Heart of Mars and mentions that it's only a harmless prank that miners tell newbies to go find.
Amused, she'll tell you to keep the Heart of Mars. Finish her dialogue to complete the quest.
There is currently a bug where the rock pile that you'll need to break to extract the Heart of Mars will spawn out of bounds, usually under the ground itself. There is no fix for this bug yet, unless you're on PC and use Console Command to bypass the issue.
One workaround to this bug is to use the NoClip console command so you can go underground where the rock pile spawns. Keep in mind that using Console Commands will lock you out of achievements on your current save file.
Alternatively, you can just skip the quest and do it on New Game+ since your sidequest progress doesn't carry over when you head to New Game+.
The Heart of Mars is a unique piece of ore but isn't a resource used in crafting. You are free to store it, display it in your outposts, or simply sell it for 28,000 Credits.
We recommend selling the piece if you don't have an outpost where you can display it from since its 10.00 Mass may encumber you if you have a low carry weight.
