Starfield - How to Block Attacks
You can block attacks in Starfield likely by holding the LT button on your controller or right clicking when playing on PC. Find out how to block attacks and the benefits of blocking in this guide.

How to Block Attacks

LT Button or Right Click

Blocking attacks is assigned to the LT button on the Xbox controller or the right click button on your mouse by default, similar to Skyrim.

You can also customize the block input to any key or button you prefer by going into the settings menu and heading over to the Bindings tab.

Why Block Attacks

Small Chance to Deflect Bullets

There is a small chance players can deflect a bullet when they are blocking with a melee weapon. While it happens very rarely, it can still help you survive close fights against strong enemies.

Reflect Damage Back

Starfield - Martial Arts Skill

If you invest 4 skill points to the Martial Arts skill in the Physical skill tree, then you can also reflect 50% of the damage back when you block a melee or unarmed attack.

Starfield - Staggered from Melee Attack

The main benefit of blocking attacks is to avoid getting staggered. Melee attacks from enemies can stagger you, especially if you do not have heavy armor equipped. By blocking, you get to deal continuous damage without being interrupted.

Blocking can also decrease damage from attacks and lessen the need for healing. However, this will work only against melee attacks. If you plan on fighting ranged enemies with a melee weapon, make sure to get to them quickly by dashing towards them.
