As a Combat Medic, your job is to stay alive to treat the wounded while being able to defend yourself. Your background already gives you survivability skills like Medicine and Wellness, but it won't hurt to bolster it further with Decontamination to help against infections more quickly. Chemistry can also complement Medicine if the chems you craft can benefit from it.
While you can fight, it's best to stay out of them if you can. Stealth can help you avoid getting caught in firefights by sneak-attacking enemies before they even see you. Social Skills like Diplomacy and Persuasion could help defuse situations, too.
If worse comes to worst, you can still fall back on your Pistol Certification to neutralize foes that won't listen to reason. You'll also want to enhance your ammo with skills like Ballistics to take them out more cleanly.
Weapon | Type | Damage | Ammo Type |
---|---|---|---|
Ambassador | Pistol | Phys | .43 Ultramag |
Deadeye | Pistol | Phys | 7.5mm |
Ember | Laser Pistol | Engy | 1.5KV LZR |
Keelhauler | Pistol | Phys | .43 MI |
Trickshot | Pistol | Phys | .43 MI |
The Combat Medic already knows Pistol Certification, so it's best to take advantage of the pistols in the game. To make the most out of them, rank up the appropriate ammo type with skills like Ballistics or Lasers and the Stealth skill if you want to use sneak attacks often.
Best Weapons: Weapon Tier List
Survivability is paramount for combat medics, so equipping armor with high damage reduction is a must. It's best to know the type of damage your enemies will use, but if that's not an option, then balancing for all three types of damage can work.
Alien DNA |
You volunteered for a controversial experiment that combines alien and human DNA. As a result, you start with increased health and oxygen, but healing and food items aren't as effective. |
---|---|
Raised Enlightened |
You grew up as a member of the Enlightened. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the House of the Enlightened in New Atlantis, but lose access to the Sanctum Universum chest. (Can't be combined with any other religion trait.) |
Spaced |
Your body has become acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when in space. but decreased when on the surface. (Can't be combined with Terra Firma.) |
Traits that help keep you alive are best suited for Combat Medics. Alien DNA and Spaced both raise your health and endurance, and their drawbacks should be manageable. The Medicine skill should counter the reduced healing of Alien DNA, while Spaced is best if you like staying in space often. Terra Firma can be an alternative to Spaced if you want to stay grounded more often.
Raised Enlightened also works well for Combat Medics that want a science-focused religion since it grants access to unique items while only losing out on the benefits of other religions.
Starting Skills | Description |
---|---|
Wellness |
By embracing an active lifestyle and good nutrition habits, one may improve their overall sense of health, and even gain prolonged life expectancy. |
Medicine |
Only through advancements in medical training and technology has humanity been able to withstand the galaxy's many dangers. |
Pistol Certification |
Considering the popularity of the personal sidearm in the Settled Systems, familiarity with such weapons is often considered essential. |
Combat Medic Flavor Text |

Leave it to human beings to fight over something as infinite as outer space. That's where you come in. You've never been afraid to take on the enemy... but you'd much rather take care of your friends. |
