Combat Tips

Stealth Kill to Avoid Alerting Enemies

Stealth Kill to Avoid Alerting Enemies
Move around stealthily to avoid combat and take out enemies via stealth to instantly defeat them without alerting the whole place. Hitting enemies while you're hidden adds a sneak attack bonus, multiplying your damage output.

How to Stealth Kill Enemies

Conserve Ammo with Melee Hits

When you're close enough to an enemy, save a few bullets by running up to them and whacking them with melee attacks.

Aim for the Head

Starfield - Aim for the Head
Aim for headshots to deal more damage to enemies. Well-placed shorts to the head will help decrease your overall ammo usage and clear the room of enemies much faster.

Gain Height Advantage with Jetpacks

Use your jetpack to fly upward and easily pick out enemies from below. Jetpacks allow you to be mobile while remaining a tough target for enemies. Having the high ground will also make it easier to find enemies hiding behind cover.

How to Use Jetpack

Boost to Get Closer to Enemies

The jetpack can launch you across a room to get closer to enemies. Closing the gap will make aiming easier, and will open you up to perform melee attacks.

Use Grenades When Surrounded

Grenades can help you get out of a pinch, especially when you're outnumbered. Throw your grenade behind corners or into rooms full of enemies to take them all out at the same time.

How to Throw Grenades

Mod Weapons to Suit Your Build

Starfield - Mod Weapons to Suit Your Build
Mod your weapons to improve their damage, accuracy or capacity, or maybe to tune them toward the build you're currently running. Adding suppressors to your gun will definitely benefit stealth builds, for example.

Combat Mistakes to Avoid in Starfield

Things to Avoid

Staying Still in a Gunfight

While in the midst of battle, do not stay still. Get behind cover, and always be ready to move to different cover, to avoid being flanked by enemies. If you're feeling brave, use your jetpack to move around and avoid gunfire while quickly shooting down enemies from the sky.

Reloading Outside of Cover

Always get behind cover before reloading and make sure enemies aren't running up to flank you. If an enemy does manage to catch you reloading, take them out with a melee hit and resume reloading.

Leaving Behind Bodies Without Looting Them

Starfield - Don
Make sure to loot all enemies you defeat, for they will usually have money, ammo, and other items you might need.

Forgetting to Save

Do not forget to save your game every now and then, just in case the game crashes, encounters a bug, or you do anything in-game that you regret. Better safe than sorry!

Forgetting to Use Your Companions

Make Use of Your Companions
Your companions are there for a reason. Bring them along with you on missions to help draw enemy fire, or assign them tasks at your Outposts so you may receive materials and rewards.

Forgetting to Level Up Skills

Starfield - Don
Don't forget to level up your skills! Every new skill will be helpful to you on each new mission, so choose ones that you believe will help you achieve what you want with your build.

Not Bringing Enough Healing Items

Bring enough Med Packs or food with you so you never have to go down all because you ran out of healing items. Always be prepared in your adventuring.

How to Level Up and Farm Skill Points Fast

Medicine

The Medicine skill increases the healing efficiency of Med Packs, which are a vital source of HP regeneration during more difficult missions

Boost Pack Training

The Boost Pack Training skill improves the efficiency of your boost pack, and will be indispensable for anyone wanting more action-packed combat.
