Starfield - Preload Guide

Preload for Starfield begins on August 17 on Xbox X|S and Windows PC, as well as August 30 for Steam. Read on for more information on Starfield's preload date and time, as well as how to preload Starfield on all platforms.

Preload Available on Xbox X|S and Windows PC

Starfield Preload Dates

Preload for Starfield for Xbox X|S and Windows PC began on Thursday, August 17th. This is for both direct purchases of the game and acquisition of the game via Game Pass.

August 30 for Steam

Players who plan on purchasing and downloading Starfield via Steam will have to wait until Wednesday, August 30 to preload the game. This gives Steam players a couple days to preload the game before the early access launch and a whole week before the game launches to all players.

How to Preload

Preloading on All Platforms
Xbox Series X|S PC: Microsoft Store ＆ Xbox App PC: Steam

Preloading on Xbox Series X|S

  1. Access Microsoft/Xbox Store on Xbox home screen.
  2. Select Search and type in “Starfield”.
  3. Open Starfield and select Download.
  4. If it says Manage instead of download, select it and choose which parts of the game you wish to download.

Otherwise, you can find the game by selecting “My games ＆ apps” on the home screen, then open Full Library.

Preloading on Microsoft Store or Xbox App

  1. Search for “Starfield” in the search bar
  2. Select the version of Starfield you have purchased.
  3. Select Install or Pre-Install once the game is available to be preloaded.

Otherwise, you can find the game in My Library if you've already purchased it.

Preloading on Steam

  1. Search for “Starfield” in the search bar of the Steam launcher
  2. Open Starfield's store page.
  3. Select Preload once the game is available to be preloaded.

You may also click on Library, and search for Starfield there, once you already own it.
