Items in Starfield can be stored safely inside your ship's cargo hold, the Outpost cargo storage, and weapon storages for all the guns and melee weapons that you own. Read on to learn where to store your items!

Your Ship Storage is accessible by interacting with its Cargo Hold located behind the Cockpit. Items for smuggling, delivery, and safekeeping can be stored in your ship's cargo hold. This is a module that acts as your ship's primary storage for items. You can customize your ship to add this part by docking in Space Ports and visiting the location's Ship Technician.
If you are aboard your ship, you can access your Cargo Hold from the Inventory menu. Press the assigned Cargo Hold button to switch to the Cargo Hold screen of your ship.
The Outpost contains a cargo storage where you can store items, weapons, and armor that you are currently not using to free up inventory space. Do note that there is a maximum limit of items that you can keep in Outposts.
A weapon storage can also be built inside your ship and you can use them to store your weapons, as well as display them!
After completing the quest One Small Step
, you'll be allowed access to the second floor of The Lodge. In a room there, there's a storage vault that has no space limit.
Early on in the game, the player will be companions with Vasco. You can have Vasco and other companions hold items for you by talking to them and choosing the 'Let's trade gear' option.
