You can choose between persuading or attacking Brogan and other pirates during the One Small Step quest in Starfield. Learn how to persuade Brogan the Pirate, all the choices and the consequences, and which choice is the best!

Choices Consequences
[Lie] That's right. I killed Barrett. So tell your pirate friends to back off. It will lead to more dialogue options, including a Persuasion or Attack option.
[Attack] Enough talk. I have places to be. Combat will commence. You can retreat to the ship or kill every pirate in the area.

The conversation will start as soon as you leave the facility in Kreet during the One Small Step quest. Choosing the Lie option will lead to more dialogue choices.

[Persuade] There's no treasure in my ship. Cut your losses before more people get hurt. It will give you a chance to persuade Brogan and avoid combat.
[Attack] Time to make the Settled Systems a safer place This option will make the pirates become hostile

More options will pop into the screen, letting you choose what to do next after picking the Lie option at the start. You can choose to attack the pirates and be on your way to the ship, or you can try to persuade them to avoid combat.

It's best to persuade Brogan and his crew if you want to avoid combat. However, you need to convince them a few times during the conversation. You will get +10 EXP for persuading them successfully.

Choosing the option to attack will obviously lead to combat. You can select this immediately if you don't want to talk with the pirates. You can loot their bodies this way and get a few Credits and Weapons.
