You cannot scrap junk or miscellaneous items into useful basic materials in Starfield. Find out more information on what else you can do with your junk items in this article.

Items in the Misc tab of your inventory, except for Digikeys or quest items such as keys, are junk and cannot be scrapped into more useful materials.
Materials for research or crafting are in the Resource tab of your inventory and are looted as such in the game.
The best you can do with your junk items is to just sell it. Some miscellaneous items sell for quite a price. It is usually not worth picking up miscellaneous items but some may be, depending on its value.
If you find yourself encumbered for carrying too much. You might want to drop the least useful items you're carrying. Most often than not, these are your junk items in the Misc tab of your inventory.
Press R while on an item on your inventory screen to drop it.
You can decorate your outposts with your Junk Items. Drop an item from you inventory screen and hover over it with your crosshair. Hold E to pick it up and move it around. Once you selected a spot to move that item to, then press E to let go of it.
