Build an XP Farming Outpost

Starfield - Set Up a Neodymium Farm Outpost
With a properly designed outpost, you can gain tens of thousands of XP per minute by crafting components in the Industrial Workbench.

This strategy involves building outposts to stockpile as many materials required to craft components such as Adaptive Frames or Paramagnon Conductors in large quantities. Though the former requires little setting up, the latter component involves a lot of planning and materials to set up but is around triple in efficiency.

Use the XP Glitch Exploit

Starfield - Use the XP Glitch Exploit
Another efficient way to level up fast is to use the XP Exploit which allows you to obtain 40-80XP each time you kill a planet's fauna.

You need to set your game's difficulty to Very Hard and find a high level planet with abundant or moderate fauna. The Schrodinger III planet at the Schrodinger Star System is a good example to use this method.

Once you land on the planet, set your difficulty to Very Easy. Doing so causes the planet to load at a Very Hard difficulty giving you large XP gain but the fauna will have their difficulty set to Very Easy.

An simple and easy way to help your character level up fast is by sleeping on a bed. This will grant you the Well Rested status effect that boosts your XP gain by 10% for 25 minutes. It does not matter how long you sleep, so you can sleep for 1 hour and still get this effect. Additionally, you can find a bed on your ship.

Complete Main Mission

Starfield - Complete Main Mission

The best and fastest way to level up is to speed through the main mission first, as the main campaign usually gives a substantial amount of XP.

Main Quests List and Walkthrough

Complete Side Mission

Marry Your Companion

Starfield - Do Sidequests With Your Companion

Players can have a romantic relationship with their companions and even become married together. To get married, you will first need to increase their approval rating by doing actions they like, such as helping others unconditionally if they are kind. Then, complete their companion quest and choose the [Flirt] and [Romance] dialogue options to get married.

Getting married to your companion will grant you the ''Emotional Security'' status effect which replaces the ''Well-Rested'' and instead gives you a 15% XP bonus everytime you sleep together.

Scan Planets With the Astrophysics Skill

Starfield - Astrophysics
The Astophysics Skill Allows you to scan further moons and planets from up to 30 light years away! For reference, the City of Neon in the Sytem of Volli is 28.8 light years away from New Atlantis in the Alpha Centauri System.

Each scan also has a chance to discover one of their planetary traits as well, rewarding you with 125 XP for each discovered trait. Completing a planet's survey with a scan, such as scanning gas giants, will reward you with 50 XP.

The downside of this strategy is you have to be at least level 8 to get Rank 1 Astrophysics with all your previous points specced into the Science Skill Tree, and this leveling strategy work best with the skill in Rank 4. Regardless, you will be able to easily scan around half of the galaxy for a lot of quick XP when you do so!
