How to Get Vortex Shards
Vortex Shards are materials used to craft Vortex Grenades in Starfield Shattered Space. Read on to learn Vortex Shard locations, how to get Vortex Shards, best places to farm them, and their item IDs.
Vortex Shard Locations
Defeat Vortex Enemies
Vortex Phantoms and Vortex Horrors are enemy types that glow a bright blue aura and have a chance to drop Vortex Shards when defeated. Phantoms are the humanoid enemies, while Horrors are more monster-like in appearance.
When fighting these types of enemies, make sure to loot their bodies to obtain Vortex Shards, among other Vortex materials used to craft Vortex Grenades.
Reload Save to Get the Loot You Need
Vortex Shards are random drops from Vortex enemies, so if you are unable to obtain this material from an enemy, simply reload a previous save file and defeat the enemies again until you get the Vortex Shards you need.

From Vortex Phantoms Around Scaled Citadel
You can find several Vortex Phantoms, which are humanoid Vortex enemies all around the area of the Scaled Citadel. These enemies can easily be spotted by their bright blue aura.

Note that the Anomalous Cave can only be accessed during the quest The Other Side. Inside the cave are various Vortex Horrors that occasionally drop Vortex Shards.
