Learn the Weight Lifting Skill

Weight Lifting

The Weight Lifting skill can increase your total carrying capacity by 10 kilograms. Since this is a Novice skill, it is automatically unlocked and can be learned by spending a skill point on it. Upgrading this skill will further increase the maximum capacity of items that you can carry as you level it up.

There are two Backgrounds that start with this skill, particularly Homesteader and Long Hauler. Getting one of these backgrounds would help you increase your carrying capacity immediately.

Extra Capacity Pack Mod

The Extra Capacity mod available for packs provides an extra 10 kilograms of carrying capacity while equipped. This mod can be rarely looted from enemies and is a craftable upgrade mod to your packs.

To start crafting this mod for your packs, complete the research for the Pack Mods 2 Research Project in your Research Lab. However, to start this project, you will need two ranks in the Spacesuit Design Skill.

Pocketed Spacesuit Mod

Wearing a Spacesuit with the Pocketed mod would increase your carrying capacity by 10 kilograms. This mod is easier crafted to a spacesuit than looted from an enemy.

Rank 2 Spacesuit Design is required to start the research on the Pack Mods 2 Research Project to craft this mod upgrade.

Space Rogue Apparels

The Space Rogue Muscle Gear and Space Rogue Outfit both provide +5% Carry Capacity buffs while worn.

Skill Magazines

Picking up the various skill magazines found throughout the galaxy give a variety of permanent buffs. One of the possible buffs you can recieve is a permanent increase to your carrying capacity.

Issues from the Freestar Captain's Log and Peak Performance series of skill magazines provide a small boost in carry capacity for a total of 10kg more carry capacity.

Store Items in the Cargo Hold or Cargo Storage

If you find yourself encumbered with the vast amount of items, weapons, and armor in your inventory, it might be best to store them in your Cargo Hold aboard your ship, or in the cargo storage at your Outpost to free up inventory space and carrying capacity.

Use a Pick-Me-Up Aid Item

The Pick-Me-Up item can also be used to temporarily increase your carrying capacity by 50kgs for 5 minutes. This lets you avoid being encumbered so you can fast travel to your ship or outpost and store your items.

Players can craft a Pick-Me-Up on a Pharmaceutical Lab or buying it from a doctor in a health center. Although, not all doctors carry the item, so you may need to wait for their stock to change or to find a doctor that has it.

Where to Find Pharmaceutical Labs

Equip Armor with Mechanized and Resource Hauler

There are armor pieces in the game that has the Mechanized effect which increases your carrying capacity by 40kg. Another effect to look out for is the Resource Hauler since it reduces the weight of your resources by 25%.

However, it can be difficult to find armor pieces with these effects since it only comes from higher rarity armor. You may need to farm Legendary gear to get these effects as fast as possible.

Companion Unique Skills

The carrying capacity for companions will also depend on the unique skills that they have. As an example, Adoring Fan has the Weight Lifting skill which increases his carrying capacity and overall amount of items that he can carry around during your space travels.

What is the Max Carrying Capacity?

Carrying Capacity Limit Undetermined

Without using console commands, it's possible to get over a 200kg carrying capacity in the game if you combine a max rank Weight Lifting skill, a Pick-Me-Up aid item, Pocketed mod, Extra Capacity mod, and have the Mechanized armor effect.

Using the increase carry weight console command, the walkthrough team has confirmed the carrying capacity can go over 10,000kg.
